As someone several years removed from SK, what's the community like nowadays? What's changed? What is there to attract an old player?
I actually didn't respond to this initially because I assumed it was directed more toward players than staff. But might as well pitch in.
Trosis states it pretty clearly and accurately as I can see it.
Right now the player numbers are similar to what they were in 97 and into 98, and a period of time around 2009-2010 I think.
There have been a lot of code changes in the past few years, and you'll surely see a number of things that are unfamiliar, but ultimately it's still pretty much the same game.
Like most things, you'll get back from it much of what you put into it:
If you log in wanting to look for something to complain about, you'll find it. A bad attitude is always fruitful.
But if you enter the game with the intent to do some roleplaying, PK, and have some fun, you should be able to engage in a lot of activity similar to the good ol' days, but hopefully without needing as much of an hour commitment.
Some things in recent years that I like:
* Expanded race/class selection for LT costs
* Tribunal benefits including tribunal revival and tribunal outfit
* Temporary (?) removal of CRS from the cabal system
* Automated religion-investment for priests, paladins, hellions
* Changes to the enchant/consecrate system, including expanding it to paladins, hellions, necromancers
* Comprehensive overhaul and rebalancing of innate enchantments on objects across the board
* New areas added
* Various RPs run and supported
* Daily "happy hour" with enhanced EXP gain and eased death restrictions
That's what comes to mind right now. Am more than happy to answer any more specifically targeted questions that you may have too. I remember your forum handle, hope to see you around more often again.
