I should have seen this coming since I was inactive for 2 months straight and able to keep a bunch of loot. High level loot at that. I didn't even log an hour.

The current iteration of the code encourages people to squat in an inn for a couple hours at the beginning or end of the month. I would go so far to say as that's completely unnecessary based on my experience.

I feel this is harmful to the game.

I already posted a while back that the storage code seems completely neutered now and doesn't seem to do much of anything, especially with regard to magical devices like wands and staves. I think it's doing -something- but that seems to be extremely minimal.

I'm not sure why that aspect of the game was toned down after all the work went into the six-item hoarding limit. Not only are storage characters more useful, they're actually encouraged, especially to keep items out of the hands of your enemies.

These comments are on opposite ends of the spectrum. Perhaps it could be even better, but I am pretty confident that the dehoarding code is both fair and "doing something". I won't explain further how it works because then people will inevitably try to game it.

From a players perspective, and similar to the majority vote, I think it does promote storage characters for magical devices.

Did you misread them? I think that ardith and I were both saying that the monthly hoarding code seems like it's totally useless.

When I said it was doing "something" I meant that I have actually seen at least one item in the last month get dehoarded, maybe, so I don't think it's bugged, just that it's tuned way way way too low. The fact that each character is limited to six items only makes the weak monthly dehoard more depressing, because what you want to be true is that if you can only hold 6 items, that you can reliably go out and retrieve an item that's out of circulation.

However, given that the monthly dehoard code isn't very aggressive, it's just as likely that someone else is going to grab the item, do nothing with it, and keep it forever. I realize that's how things always used to be in the past also: But at least in the past the monthly dehoard meant something, and it felt like you had to be reasonably active to keep items. Now you both can't keep more than 6 items -and- the monthly dehoard is unlikely to return things that are on extremely inactive characters.

As an example, a couple of months ago I held a sanctuary staff on a character that probably logged less than 2-3 hours in the entire month. I -know- those staves are very limited and very desirable, but my character didn't lose it on the monthly reboot. I junked it afterwards, but the monthly dehoarding code is really weak right now. Murcia's example of not even logging an hour yet managing to keep a bunch of high-level loot is another example.

the new rulez for PK combined with the ineffective dehoarding code leaves us, the players, in a no-win situation.

the code is sorely lacking when it comes to remedying the problem and the DIY methods employed in the past will get u slapped with a curse, deleted or banned.

Pretty sure people already know how it works and are gaming the system. That's why I made this post.

For my part I dehoarded my inactive character and ultimately retired it, but other players are less generous in this regard, keep inactive characters, and hoard stuff for months.

I thought I posted here, did it get deleted? I think I was in agreement with someone that the new PK rules combined with the new dehoarding code make storage characters incredibly more effective than they used to be.

I will review the code to see if something is missing. There seems to be a lot of hand wringing based on the belief that some people are getting away with stuff. Please PM me the names of any characters you believe are hoarding / storing items (along with any prominent items being hoarded) and I will use them as part of my test pass.

The code is not at all effective. I came back from a 2 month break where I played 0 hours during that time. I was able to keep a lot of gear that is level 40 and higher, most of it 45 and higher. In the past I would have been stripped naked of that gear.

In a game with limited items this sort of thing is harmful to the players that are active.

I'll only give an example of my characters since I have complete evidence of what happened. My hellion Murcia (now retired) was able to keep several highly sought after consumable items (pills, potions), thereby keeping them out of circulation. My other hellion Alanei had all of her weapons, armor and other items still intact when I came back. I dehoarded Murcia, and retired the character, and kept Alanei.
