No regen, no able to quit and relog, not able to command only but "who" command...

This has happened to me like five times! Three of my characters have gotten stuck on the "You are mortally wounded..." before, with no end in sight. I had to pray. What causes it?

It usually happens when you take enough damage in a round to put you right below stunned (so you don't regen) but right above bleeding to death (so you don't die either) and in that same round your pet kills whatever was killing you.
