EDIT: Solved, my fault. Text left below for posterity.

I had an unusual situation happen to me today.

From my home computer, I couldn't access either the SK website or the game itself.
From my work computer, I found I couldn't log into my SK character (Illegal name, try another). I could create a new character, though.

I assumed that for some reason I had been sitebanned without any warnings. I sent a PM to Dulrik (though he never got online to see it AFAIK) and re-read rules/rules2. I did not break any of the rules that I could tell. Absolutely no triggers or botting, which seem to be a common problem among the banned. No post in The Afterlife as a record.

The one thing I was worried about is that I did delevel myself intentionally to rearrange attribute points when I was in newbie school. I thought it was a cool idea and it occurred to me accidentally after I died and was wondering why I went down a descriptor in one of my attributes. As far as I know creative use of game mechanics isn't against the rules, but I would expect to at least receive a warning or deletion and not a site ban.

Finally, upon arriving home I found that I could re-access SK and... my character was working?

Just wondering if it's possible that some mistake was made and I was temporarily banned. Or, could it even be that my home network was experiencing some unexplained difficulties and I was repeatedly mistyping the character's name at work? I've thought about it, but considering I tried 4-5 times, I doubt it.

If any Immortal can step up and say, "Yes, you were banned" or "No, you're off your rockers" I would be appreciative. Any mortal feedback is interesting too. I think SK is a very interesting world and would love to keep playing it - I had a mid-level character a few months back and only stopped playing due to lack of time. Thanks! :)

You are brilliant! From work I was trying PuTTY (basic telnet client) and when I try it from home I get the same "Illegal name" error. Maybe it's using the wrong carriage return or something...? I must have been having network problems at home... now I just feel silly...

If you ever get banned, you won't have any question as to whether or why.
