Now that I think about it, I am more interested in hearing about an Imm code of ethics.

Ok fine.

Rule #1: No rape of any kind. Period. Doesn't matter if both parties involved wanted it. Still no rape. Ever.

I have a personal code of ethics as well as a more developed one that I wrote as a part of this class. It is more directed towards the information profession however given some time I can modify it to better reflect my role in SK. It will need to wait till I've completed my classes though, but I will post it here shortly after the 18th of March if there is interest from the player base. However, for now I would like to continue the discussion about our ethics as a community of players.

Again keep in mind these are not rules or laws. The purpose of this is not to develop an official code for SK but to gain a better understanding of our ethics where the game is concerned.

I typically don't report people that cheat, especially when they cheat to try to get a better foothold on me. I then mercilessly mock them when they inevitably fail, and failed at cheating.

I also love people that break down and go on swearfests. Those are the best. I laugh so hard. It's even better when you're playing a game where you can hear audio, and hear them go "oh my god, xxx is so worthless, blah blah blah."

That, and being heavily inactive. I'll return sometime. I think...

I guess I don't draw such a sharp distinction between Imms and players when it comes to that sort of classification. Basically, Imms are just a different type of player (excepting Imps); we are all participating in the same shared hallucination. Imms are thus part of the "community of players" and largely have the same ethical concerns.

Oh, I forgot that I discriminate against red-heads.

Agreed, however your statement came after an Imm had made a post so I assumed you wanted something closer to my code of ethics in performing my duties as a staffer rather than my ethics as a player. Both of which I am willing to provide.

Continuing with your example of a darkie with no ethics or morals. To make it easier we will say it is a deep-elf necromancer, super evil, diabolic and obviously so. Let us say that you have just come into contact with someone of who is clearly of opposing aura to you an elf. Let us also say that after a very brief interaction with this character you can tell 100% that they are a new player to SK still trying to understand the world both IC and OOC. Now, your evil character with no morals who has enmity against elves would normally attack within moments of the first interaction. But you know this is a new player to the game and one of lower level than you. Do you still attack within moments? or because of that knowledge do you hold back some and offer more rp interactions that will evolve into PK?

I can't speak for Opey, but I always put teaching new players ahead of proper RP. In this situation, I would play my character in an off mood (maybe they feel like insulting the elf, or asking the elf questions like "Where does your family live? I'm rather famished") things that would portray how evil my character is, without being overly threatening. But when dealing with a new player in this situation, if they're new to SK but not to MUDs, I'll usually have four OOC comments to my every IC comment, and I'll end it by letting them know not to be afraid to ask for things out of character. I would also make it a point to let a lighty know OOC about them.

As for other ethics, I trust people not to PK (or PvP in general) without having a reason, I'll never NOT roleplay with someone just because I don't like how they play, and unless they ask, I'll never tell someone how to play their character (mechanics or RP-wise).

Thinking about the ethics got me thinking, and I'd like to hear from some of the playerbase: If you're playing a tribunal character, sitting in the inn, chatting IC, and you get a tell from opposite tribunal character (let's assume you don't know who the player is) "OOC Hey, so-and-so and I are going to fly over to your town. Get another person, and let's fight it out. Do you care if we RP it out before the fight though?" How would you react? I imagine that the playerbase would either not change anything, stay in character, and act surprised in the inn, or do the opposite, get a big ol warparty together and head them off.

How would any of you respond?

Personally, I'd be pissed off at the guy in the opposite tribunal as me. He tipped me off OOC and now I don't have that same surprise. Situations like this turn into the Kura cookie-cutter RP that we all (should) despise.
