Your understanding was wrong. MP on armor protected against physical attacks that targeted the body part protected by that piece of armor. For example, if someone was stabbing you in the head, you were much better off with a helmet that had +4 MP than one that was unenchanted, even if the two helmets compared as equivalent.

Which is one of the reasons why the two were split into separate categories. The way it worked before was two conceptually different things.

Thank you Baldric, my misunderstanding is now cleared up. The only thing I commented on was what my perceptions (however inaccurate) was. To assume that everyone knows everything with perfection and if they don't, due to their own perceptions, is not only arrogance but elitism that this game does NOT need. I didn't start this thread, and the only things I have ever said about enchanting is that it is so long and bothersome that it actually discouraged people from playing certain classes because they would be turned into enchanting [REDACTED]. I NEVER claimed that enchantments should be changed, just how it is done.

The point that I failed to get across is that well-informed opinions are actually more likely to be correct than opinions that are not backed up by an understanding of game mechanics and experience dealing with those mechanics. This is a position you disagreed with previously, in a different thread regarding necromancers, in which you did advocate changes.

I’m saying that having expertise in something means that you are more likely to be correct when making judgments about those things. Here is an analogy that will hopefully illustrate what I am trying to say, and also show that my view is not controversial:

Let’s pretend that Jennbo is an environmental science expert, I’m a medical doctor, and you’re a world-renowned economist. Instead of discussing game mechanics, we’re discussing a medical issue.

Environmental Scientist (Jennbo): “Hi, Bob, I’m pretty sure you have cancer.”
jennbo wrote:
I don't think there's a single log of Surrit getting owned by a one or two person group. That's because Edoras is awesome and puts prep into his characters, but so do Ardith and lots of other players around here, and they still can't beat him without a huge group.

I'm on your side. I don't want necromancers nerfed. But removing bash from animates isn't a nerf, it's just a side effect that will make them cooler, IMO. The well-prepped players would be even more effective if bash was removed from animates.

Medical Doctor (Baldric): “Hold on, Jennbo. I’m glad you are taking an interest in your friend’s well-being, but maybe you should go to medical school before you start trying to diagnose people. That is just a cyst.”
Baldric wrote:
Jennbo, I'm glad that you've been more involved in pvp, but you should probably spend less time weighing in on these kinds of discussions. I'm not sure you're ready. Sorry. Also, syn and I wrecked Surrit + full army + Deamuce in less than a round, prompting Zerel's player whining about how weak necros are.

Environmental Scientist (Jennbo): “Stop being elitist”
jennbo wrote:
See comment about elitist jerks who say only "experienced" people should contribute to PVP discussions. At least I actually play the game I'm vested in.

Medical Doctor (Baldric): "Jennbo, I’m just saying that until you get training to be a doctor and then get experience as a doctor, you are liable to make an incorrect diagnosis, and people won’t take you seriously.”
Baldric wrote:
Jennbo, I was only trying to give you advice to help you out. The content of your suggestions is not going to be taken seriously because of the content, not because it comes from you. The underlying reason that your suggestions have bad content is that you are not yet l33t like me. No hard feelings.

Economist (Galactus): “You are elitist scum, Baldric. Why should Jennbo’s opinion count for less than yours?”
Galactus wrote:
Yeah, so what? Even one of the l33t pkers, Ardith, even recognizes there is something wrong with the necromancers. You do intend hard feelings. Stop lying. You are saying that unless someone is on the upper echelon of PK your opinion matters not. That Elitist attitude is exactly what she was talking about. I suggest you find something else to do than troll people actually trying to have a conversation.

Medical Doctor (Baldric): “. . . I think I just gave her some sound advice.”
Baldric wrote:
I'm friends with jennbo and it was meant as a light-hearted jab, as well as sound advice.

Economist (Galactus): “It doesn’t take a genius to know that you are an elitist [REDACTED], and are trying to insult her.”
Galactus wrote:
Baldric, it is a back handed jab. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out. To say it was "advice" is to say that their opinions means less than yours.

Medical Doctor (Baldric): "I’m not trying to demean Jennbo. I just think that we should leave diagnoses to people with the appropriate qualifications."
Baldric wrote:
It's not that her or your opinion "matters" less than mine. It's that your opinion is more frequently wrong than mine is.

Economist (Galactus): "It absolutely means that her opinion means less than yours. Don't try to white-wash it, when someone called you on it. So, can you show me some real evidence that it’s just a cyst, and not a cancerous tumor?"

Galactus wrote:
So, once again I ask, name a person that was playing a non-necro, require large groups to kill them. Learn your ABC's buddy. It absolutely means that her opinion means less than yours. Don't try to white-wash it, when someone called you on it. So, can we have a real example, please?

Medical Doctor (Baldric): “The lump is inconsistent with a cancerous tumor based on the results of the biopsy I performed. Here are the results, which clearly indicate that we are dealing with a harmless cyst. Here are a few journals and a medical textbook that support the conclusions I have drawn from the biopsy.”

Exhibit A: Rorey. Giant barbarian.
Mengroth. Rorey vs MC barb, MC merc, and MC necro (without undead army) in menegroth. Enemy group is buffed and initiates battle. Rorey lands two kills, sends necromancer running.
Menegroth. Rorey vs Crucible warlock + MC merc. Enemy group was given advanced warning of fight. Rorey kills the mercenary and runs the warlock off.
Teron. Rorey vs Crucible hellion + black hand bard. Enemy group is buffed and initiates combat. Rorey kills both of them.
Teron. Rorey vs hammer merc, peacekeeper paladin. Enemy group was in pk-mode, looking for someone to kill. Rorey forces both to flee/recall.
Moot. Rorey vs black hand necromancer + controls + black hand bard + guard NPCs + grouped guards. Rorey kills everything.

These are all fights of Rorey by himself, though I could point to logs where I have help but am outnumbered and win. Rorey died 3 times. Once in the moot vs black hand rogue + black hand swashbuckler + guard NPCs, and there were unlucky rolls involved. Once immediately after while I was unequipped to Aritha. Once after winning a 1v2 and getting ambushed by two allies while at 30% health: a necro with a full army, and a warlock, both crucible.

Oh, and I did not have an etherealform item, or a pebble necklace.

Economist (Galactus): “I'm going to pretend you didn't show me that.”

MP only soaked damage from magical attacks, not from mundane sources, from what I understood. MP still soaks magical damage, from what I understand.

Medical Doctor (Baldric):See, this is what I was talking about. You are clearly not a medical expert. This is going to lead you to make an incorrect diagnosis.

Wow. What a complete elitist jerk. You are also flat out wrong. Enchanting for MP causes your character to age faster than everyone else, thus gaining an age tick faster. Moron.

Part of me is glad that Baldric doesn't play, or else he'd never have the time be able to contribute to the forums in such an awesome way.

Sorry, got bored. What did Baldric say? Nothing I presume. I will never assume any one other's opinion is 'informed' until they can show proof. Too many times everyone on this forum has shooted stuff out of their rump. You also missed the point of the previous dialogue. 1 crappy necro does not the standard. Keep trying though. Only doctor you are of is your own imagination.

True or False: Baldric has made at least one factually incorrect statement about SK game mechanics in this thread.

It's a 22 page thread, so I have no idea. If I'm wrong on something, please let me know. I will defer to your wisdom and experience.

This is worse than that time I accidentally debated politics with what turned out to be a lump of clay.

If you could please leave your insults for elsewhere, the world would be better off.

I can't find the post, I made but I specifically asked about MP and Armor and Elitists like yourself told me to go fly a kite. So, excuse me if I had to make my own assumptions due to dbags who think that whenever anyone asks a question, no matter how long they have been here or not, shouldn't even ask.
