Reasons for deletion

I am trying to create a list of the top five reasons for deleting (or retiring) a character on SK based on two different types of deletion: planning to play again and not planning to play again. Here are some ideas I came up with. Please add your own reasons and/or say what you think the order should be by most frequent occurance.

Will play SK again:
1. Burned out on current character
2. Not enjoying character mechanics
3. Not enjoying character roleplay
4. Not enough time to meet character obligations
5. Dying too often

Will not play SK again:
1. Dying too often
2. Not enough roleplaying
3. Not enough PK/Tactics
4. Community is not friendly
5. Other games/activities take priority

lol, I really doubt anyone leaves SK because there isn't enough PK, too much PK seems to be the problem for some people who leave (and really, nobody dies THAT much, unless you go looking for it. And if you /are/ dying that much? Try RPing. Nobody on SK understands the word "compromise".)

Community is not friendly is a good one. I hate to say it while i can get along with most of you, majority of you lack any sense of empathy or sportsmanship.

Beat me to the punch. I honestly don't ever remember hearing people delete and leave the game over not having enough PK.

One reason I would suggest for that category (deleting and not playing again) is ego. There are tons of people who like to pretend to be tough guys and will talk mad kinds of crap, but they can't back it up in PK or tactics, and their ego can't handle it. So instead of trying to be humble as both a player and a character and learn, they just rage delete and quit.

Edit: This reason would fit into both categories, actually.

My latest deletion and retirement resulted in lack of real life time to dedicate to a character.

In large part I agree with your list and ordering, but I'll make a few changes and explain my lines of reasoning below.

Will play SK again:

1. Burned out on current character (qualified: usually due to the thanklessness and grind of certain positions in-game)

2. Not enjoying character mechanics. This is probably the most common reason, I think, that people delete but re-roll.

3. Not enjoying character roleplay. I include this to be class/faction demanded RP restrictions as well as the quality of RP surrounding the player's char.

4. Too much grind for not enough gain. The constant need for coin farming/loot recovery are the two largest culprits of this, the latter of the two due either to jloots or the nonsense of enchanting to be competitive. While grind alone won't be enough to drive someone completely away from the game in most cases, I do consider this to be a large contributing consideration when people are also considering leaving the game entirely. For example, someone who already is close to leaving gets PK'd and jlooted without what they consider to be enough RP (rightly or wrongly) is also THEN looking down the barrel of a good three or four days at least, and a week or so at worst, in recovering even a moderately competitive kit...Well, that's going to push someone out entirely.

5. Not enjoying the play style/roleplay of allied characters. Speaks for itself, but if you really cannot stand dealing with people who are supposed to be your allies, easier to just find new allies than to try to change the ones you have. This is especially true in the case of lighties, since the OMFGTOTALULTIMATEBAN on LvL pvp was recently instituted, and certain players seem to enjoy rolling lighties who exist only to break alignment and hassle established lightie characters/factions.

Will not play SK again:

1. Community is not friendly. More appropriately worded as "community not comprised of people I'd care to interact with on a routine basis, IC or OOC," perhaps. Or, the thing that's currently having me question coming back to the game when I fix my desktop after the move I just went through, "certain members of the community revolting to me and the thought of interacting with them IC or OOC outweighs any positives of playing the game." It really does only take a couple of toolbags and/or dangerously mentally unstable people to make the thought of playing SK a turn-off.

2. Too much freedom in regards to justifying PK combined with the tediousness of recovering from the same. This kind of ties into my number 4 reason, but is actually different enough to warrant its own listing IMO.

3. Not enough variety in tactics (qualified: this is actually another reason I might not return to the game personally; every encounter should not come down to bashbashbashbashbashbashbashbashbashdead, which it currently for all intents and purposes does).

4. Not enough fountain RP. I insert "fountain" here because while I personally consider PK and mechanical conflict to be a part of SK's RP, but some people want to separate the mechanical and imaginative aspects of SK and don't deal well with the fact that they are not separated already.

5. Not enough time to handle character responsibilities/other activities and games are more appealing. I lump these two reasons together because the are fundamentally the same. Burn out/bitterness involved with the literal chore of faction leadership gets to a fair number of people (I actually think this is why the same players tend to get tapped frequently to lead factions, because they've proven their willingness to be a scratching post for the playing enjoyment of others). Combined with some of other reasons, coming to think of your characters' responsibilities as chores (and frequently noting that no matter what character you're playing on what side or none that the responsibilities just come with you) makes other activities and games that DON'T end up feeling like a chore far far more appealing.

Since this seems to keep coming up.

It does not take 3-4 days to re-equip.

There is so much equipment in SK, that the only reason for you to not be fully eq'd within an hour or two of getting rez'd is if you don't have allies on to help with necessary parts.

Enchanting that eq is an entirely separate problem.

On a side note, dying as a merc/barb/etc tends to suck more than dying as other classes, but these are also the classes with the most abundant sets of fully top-tier eq. I.E. countless sets of diamond armor that come with great MP/etc.
