Outside of the alignment and outside of the faction are two different areas. Unfortunately, I have to agree with WW - I'm pretty balls-deep in the RP scene, and you don't generate as much across-alignment RP as you'd like to promote in that post, even if it is outside of faction. You do plenty of RP outside of the faction, though, but it's generally anongst allies. And I don't mean that to offend you, but it's the way of things. You're not getting much help from the other side, either.

Sargas, people just rage that they don't understand there can be purely selfish goals for wanting to get rid of someone and they don't take the time to RP and find out.

Hellions/paladins will never make respectable tanks unless bless becomes a self-only, huge buff to accuracy, they're given enhanced parry, or they join a certain faction. Sure, they might be able to take a hit or three, but the respect a tank gets is in relation to the other tanks that exist. They will never get to respectability, as they don't have the chops to compete with every other class, including paladins, in raw tanking. (GM armor > GM shield for tanking)

Always amused me they were the ones of the two that never got frenzy, though.

And paladins spamming spells is also pretty derptastic. Hellions have a mess-everyone-up spell. Paladin's best version of that: flamestrike.

I'll RP with you, jerinx. Mostly over your dead body.

Seriously, though... I've had plenty of cross-faction RP with some of our not-so-much enemies, and a few sessions over bodies as well. I also know that patrisaurus has had several, umm..., "RP sessions" with leaders of other cabals / tribunals. But it happens because we initiate it. You're right: it doesn't happen often, and it's mostly among allies. But you can get people to sit down across table as well if you seek it out.

Still, hellions are pretty amazing in a group or solo if played correctly: just because you don't have call lightning doesn't mean that the class is without overwhelming advantages. They can't (and, in my opinion, shouldn't) be tanks, if for no other reason than that cuts one of their primary selling points in larger PK.

Wat? Paladins are awesome tanks.

=Maybe this is a suggestion that should have it's own thread, but since it pertains to hellions I thought I'd just put it here. I was thinking maybe hellfire could have a dual purpose added to it to counter BoG. Casting on a target would remain as is; casting on self would dispel the affects of BoG. This would still give the paladin an advantage for as long as it takes for the hellion to remove the effect if that is the route the hellion chooses. Casting hellfire on yourself would come at the same cost as casting hellfire on a target, the hellion would still take the fire damage portion of the spell (sorry centaurs) if not at least part of the negative energy damage.

You know what, I kinda like this idea from an RP stand-point. The dark knight is bathed in unholy fire and cleansed of any holy stuff.

Neat idea, but not a good one sadly. The hellion has a clear-cut option for getting rid of nimbus. It's called killing the paladin that nimbus'ed you. Problem solved.

Can someone explain the obsession people have lately with calling people who play gray aura but aren't on your side gray aura scrupulous / gray aura diabolic? Jeez.

Because!

If you aren't with them, you are against them. Help the dark side, you're evil, evil, evil, evil, diabolically evil! If you help the light side you are such a goody-goody two scrupulous shoes that you may as well go prancing and skipping through fields.

Most of the time, the mentality seems to lends itself to just get rid of the grey auras and force everyone either dark or light so that there is no grey area and everyone can be happily justified when they kill someone.

Truly grey can and has happened, but it is the thinnest of lines, and falling off of that line has worse consequences than falling off of the scrupulous line if you're alignment is that.

I'm sorry to say but apparently you guys don't know what you are talking about. It's okay to reply to this thread IF you actually have played a hellion.

I have been playing several and trust me they are ONLY good for RP reasons.

Hellions are inferior in a number of ways compared to other classes.

1. They have extremely low HP.
2. They need ALL their stats maxed out (which doesn't leave stats points enough for art)
3. They are inferior to any melee class which has just a minimum of magical resistance
4. Hellfire is useless against PC, it simply doesn't do any damage except versus centaurs
5. Maledicitions doesn't land becayse of low art and if they do you still die to magical / melee damage because of low HP
6. Domination might be useful with the right dominate if you have enough CHA and are in a certain cabal

So all in all, hellions sucks. I honestly can't think of a class it is superior to...
