If I had been aggressive the entire time and had a couple double heals, I bet I would have won.

While I agree with you 100% that Deep-Elves have vulnerabilities that outweigh the benefits in the hellion department, I have this image of the deep elf hellion in a specific organization walking around with 2 dominates, a pet, a guard NPC that may or may not be dominating another NPC, I don't think that's the answer to deep-elves we want.

Also, how is that fair to gnome mercenary, or deep-elf mercenary, or giant warlock, half elf sorcerer or any of the other race/class combinations that suffer from a weaker standing in relation to other race/class combinations? Balance is hard, but I don't think this is the way to achieve it. I would be more in favor of damage vulnerabilities like iron, blunt, light, etc having a halved effect for certain classes, those expected to be taking more damage than others since they are more likely to be in the thick of it.

...A gnome merc would beat a deep-elf hellion 1v1.

I don't see how having 2 domainated NPCs is going to cause an unbalance at all for the class. Don't open it just to delf but to the entire class. That way you can open some play difference all around. Now will anyone other than delf be able to hold the concentration, probably not. Domination itself is already a weak spell imo. The limitations are quite steep when compared to control spells. I think it would be fine to see someone with 2 dominated NPCs, I also don't think they would be able to cast much of anything else while doing this (I've never had a delf hellion so I cannot say as to what their concentration limit is but I can guess from my memory of what I could cast and what a delf hellion at the time was able to hold).

Bump.

Domination is complete trash.

Without just making it into charm person, my only suggestions are to severely lower the int/mana cost of this spell so that it gets used. Or to let it affect GMs, but have the concentration cost scale with the level of the thing being dominated.

Not sure how you can make the argument that it is complete trash. Especially after the recent pet store updates, the potential for another real charm, even if it has a maximum of a few levels lower than charm person, ought to be highly valued. Do you want to be holding it 100% of the time? Unlike a sorcerer, probably not. But still don't think that makes it trash. It's just more tactical for the hellion.

Domination is complete trash.

It's probably more a builder issue though. Charm person/domination need better options, and deep-elf hellions should be able to dominate more than one thing at a time. I still can't get over the fact that it's possible to cast the spell at another target while having a first target dominated, but not possible to actually dominate another target.

Anything that keeps you from getting bashed for a few rounds is not 'trash.' Hellions are not sorcerors and can/should be able to put up a fight in the time that it takes for their dominate to go down. Do you want your pet to be able to solo a player as a hybrid-warrior class?

Less NPC wars, please.

Eh, as it stands now, a dominate isn't "soloing" anything.

I actually had a cloth armor priest turn one of my dominates against me with remove compulsion, and then proceeded to trounce him, as I had a dominate nipping at my heels. Also I was a deep-elf, and the dominate had a cold iron pitchfork. He just didn't do...anything.

You know what would make Domination super cool?

You have to beat the NPC/pc in question into the ground BEFORE you can dominate them.

Like my puppy does to his stuff bear, beats him down and dominates him.

The point of dominate is to have another meatshield. Using it for any other purpose is just... pointless, really.
