Does your race or class determine how many experience points are needed for each level? Or are experience point requirements the same for every race and class?

I am positive that experience points needed for each level are the same for each class/race. However your charisma affects quite significantly how many you earn.

A naturally high charisma will speed up the rate that you gain xp at.

Longer lived races also gain xp at a slower rate than shorter lived races.

I'm pretty sure the actual amount of xp needed does not vary with class or race.

The xp needed to level differs by class.

I have no reason to believe that race affects xp, though.

I'm not sure why the information about experience was removed when help files for races and classes were updated over the years, but the original help files clearly stated that non-human races required more experience. The adventurer classes were also the baseline for class experience, with fighters, clergy and mages requiring more for each level.

I don't recall seeing an update indicating the experience modifier for classes/races were removed, so I'd imagine it is still in effect. The only change seems to be the mention of the experience modifier being nuked from the help files.

I also remember that about 10 years ago, long before charisma was added, race did have an effect on XP and a griffon warlock was considered to be the slowest class to level, followed by necromancers. However since then people have mastered powerleveling.

Interesting. Didn't know that.

I agree that charisma helped, but the reason that leveling to GM is so trivial now is due to the update that re-scaled NPC hit points and not because players have developed ninja-like, uber power leveling techniques. Back in the day, a typical NPC like a mage in Tlaxcala could have several thousand hit points. As a caster class you might spend half a mana bar to kill one and as melee class you might lose half your hit points, which resulted in a lot of down time to regenerate.

Nowadays, that same mage NPC probably has a couple hundred hit points and dies in a bash or a couple spells. I doubt the exp for the NPC was changed, but the amount of time and resources it takes to kill it was significantly reduced.

This is true and was an important factor for people with a min-max mentality.

I also agree with Finney's statement that it is easier and faster to own a NPC now than it was many years ago. Tlax is a great example.

Levelling now has become more of a game of aura-hunting and minimizing/negating your choosen NPC's strengths so that you can non-stop kill. It used to be a slow slug-fest of unending boredom. Things have gotten better over the years.
