I've played sorcs who spent a huge amount of time polymorphed as delfs (with a wand). I've pked as a delf sorc. They’re OP. So are human sorcs. The fact is that NO PC warrior would stand a chance against Lathron + Losquaty or Lathron + Waish with the possible exception of an extremely well built hammer (and even then the best case scenario for the warrior is a draw). None whatsoever. Not if the sorc knew what he was doing.
The main crux of your argument seems to be "If a solo PC warrior/caster/adventurer/etc doesn't have an even chance of winning a fight against a sorcerer, then sorcerers are overpowered."
That's just wrong. Sorcs have weaknesses, they're just not something that a PC warrior by himself can deal with. Why in the world a PC warrior would even bother solo fighting a sorcerer without some advantage of territory or anything else given that they can just zap etherealform is completely beyond me. Your examples of why sorcerers are OP involve people doing stupid stuff against them, like standing front row by themselves and trying to melee two charms to death. No duh sorcs looks OP in that regard.
A well-built Hammer merc with enough enchants to resist petrification/feeblemind/dispel/etc., can kill two sorc charms and send the sorc runningjust on account of the strength of his cabal abilities, buffs, mood defensive, and heal potions, and most any tribunal characters can defend against a lone sorcerer just fine. ANY two characters who are smart and well prepared with enchants and consumables are able to beat even a deep-elf sorcerer, and given certain class/cabal combinations have a pretty high chance of killing him. You just have to approach them the right way: And going up front solo against two charms is NOT the right way. The other "moves" you referenced, such as reciting petrification scrolls or zapping wands, are things that plenty of other classes can do already, it isn't like reciting petrification or zapping acid blast is limited to sorcerers only.
I mean, most melee classes are totally screwed solo fighting necromancers, but necromancers aren't overpowered: You just have to fight them the right way and not have sucky enchantments.
