What I'm trying to say is currently, in regards to Spirit Disorientation only, it is balanced, in the way it is even across the board, and a mechanic of the game that is pretty simple to grasp, even for the 'newbie' who probably isn't virgin to MUDs at this point, and if they are, well, live and learn right?

Or more appropriately, die and learn.

SD is probably one of the most reliable, constant things that happens to a character in this game, and is documented well enough in the help files for the REAL newbie to be able to figure out.

Hell, the help files on death tell you ways to come back to life without even getting disorientated as well as the cost and procedures for doing so!

Maybe the lowbie should be informed that the benefits of certain under-used methods of gaining life might out-weigh the penalties in their situation?

Either way you will pay, Time or XP, and the latter really isn't so bad when you are of a low level.

It isn't broke, so don't fix it.

EDIT: This isn't GD people. Sheesh. At least be relevant.

SD is kind of a "kick in the teeth" mechanic that doesn't need to be there unless you're killed in PVP. Surely, there can be some sort of awareness on the part of the MUD to what you die to. An ungrouped, sentient NPC killing you should somehow spare you the headache of spirit disorientation.

Spirit disorientation is *supposed* to be a kick in the teeth. Prior to its implementation certain lighties would spam die to darkies in failed assaults over and over again, many times repeating attacks several times in one hour. This code was placed in to discourage that sort of thing.
