I guess the flaw with Tetra's argument, is the basis of the character was not a scrupulous character with anarchistic occurences, but was an anarchist character concept....that used a alignment, that was not fitting whatsoever.

wait what

Also: again, there is reason behind the removal of the religious flag. There was RP behind it. An interesting RP too (at least I think so anyways, but clearly, YMMV by a hell of a lot).

My best guess on why this punishment was taken?

I don't have any thing to justify this guess off hand, but I'd guess the player was using her religious membership as reasoning for her breaking of alignment.

I don't think this situation could've been handled a "right" way. Even if she were just cursed every time they saw RP they felt was against her alignment people would be calling foul.

The thing about this that bugs me is I remember when Zavijah stopped taking greys one of the HF's was a grey and didn't even want to be in the church at that point. I can't remember the name, but I'm sure others remember him. I think he even remained HF despite obvious IC attempts at getting out of the faith. There was also that big stink some time ago when Lyara (I think it was Lyara) invested a deep-elf into Aludra. Aside from the uproar on the forums did anything happen there? Was the deep-elf punished in some way that I'm unaware of?

It seems like getting an F2/F3 flag removed from a person who is clearly abusing it or has steered away from the faith is a pain in the neck, but for an alignment issue she was kicked out of the faith. It really could've been handled with curses, immortal guidance, and some action on the part of lighties.

From what I've seen of the_me's characters I'm sure that he/she would've been willing to learn and continue to move forward. Instead the character was made an incredibly rare exception.

Does anybody remember the last time a person had a religion flag removed that wasn't accidentally given? (i.e. HF/leader types invest instead of induct)

My bard was a grey aura'd half-elf HF of Zavijah for a time. I'm not sure if thats the character you are in referance to, but at the time Zavijah had no issue with the way I played it, and the lighty only rule was placed in while I was in the faith still. I was allowed to remain the HF and stay in the faith, the only thing that happened was at that point I had to stop investing greys into the faith. After I deleted the bard, the issue I thought went away. Also I never made any attempts to leave the faith.

No, this guy was long before bards. I want to say he was a sorcerer. Perhaps the lightie only rule has come and gone over time, but I remember it being complained about at the time.

This is a tangent, but with regards to griffons: The only intelligent griffons are good-aligned. I won't touch upon which stories are true and which are false, but the various creatures that resemble griffons on the other side of the alignment spectrum never have more than bestial intelligence. They aren't people, they are monsters.

I'll leave you to speculate whether that's because they are a different sub-species or whether griffons that turn away from the light go mad and lose their minds or possibly a combination of the two.

Then you really need to lower max int for griffons.

I don't see the correlation. For whatever reason (I am trying to avoid dictating the official history of griffons), griffons are good-aligned and quite intelligent. Other creatures that resemble griffons but are not good-aligned are not intelligent. If a specific griffon were to consistantly act against their alignment, then that specific griffon might start to lose their intelligence, but not the entire griffon race.

It's just that it feels really strange that an entire race is becoming a genius just because they are acting good. If bad-aligned relatives are dump enough not to be even sentient and they are... genius... I hope you do see my point.

A relapse into a state of pure instincts would explain it well enough. A spin used often enough in the case of vampires, who aren't really stupid to begin with in gameplay terms. Even though a dark-aura which doesn't make such a relapse might be justifiable, I think it's a cool way to make a lightie-only race.

Mind you, I have no idea whether this is the "official" reasoning, but it would make sense...

But that they're relatives is an assumption. Neither the Cauldron legend or the story from Owyran particularly supports it.

Take a look at felgryf or wyvern descriptions in the game. It's no great secret how at least some of them came to be.
