I know I'm simultaneously beating two dead horses here, but leveling a shaman is now worse than before with the level changes. It's horrible until you get flamestrike at journeyman, and then, leveling is easy for five levels until you reach veteran, at which point leveling becomes impossible once again.

Shamans have something that will get them up to journeyman easily: axe.

Seriously, you can even buy a double-bladed axe early in the game. It'll take you straight to journeyman no problem.

It's boring, it's nothing but a grind, and I'm thinking about deleting perfectly good characters because I don't want to level them up to Master (no reason for GM alts, really). I don't think I'm the only one here.

Leveling is always a grind.

Magic missile, cause light or equivalent should be available as a novice, or leveling should be made easier until level 40. To make the game playable.

Magic missile should have its damage lowered.

If I'm understanding this whole business about aiming correctly, would this mean that if you're grouping with another person, it is more optimal xp-wise for one person to aim upper and the other to aim lower? Given that groups are more likely to exhaust all the available NPCs in each area, and given that this would allow more xp to be sapped from the most valuable targets, it seems like spreading the damage out would be best.

It does seem that playing with aim could be to your advantage.

It takes the same amount of time to level reguardless what way you aim. If you aim lower it takes longer to kill a NPC, but you don't have to run around as much finding more NPCs. If you aim upper you'll kill faster, but you'll have more running to do. In terms of time, it would balance itself out to be about the same. Depending on class to, aiming lower could even possibly slow you down if the NPCs you are fighting do a significant amount of damage where you would require more rest periods after fights to regain hp or mana.

I think it's all very situational to say the least.

It would still hinge on the guy who aims upper because the head shots would take the NPC out faster.

You'd still get bonus xps for being grouped up.

The part you are missing in your analysis is that the guy aiming lower will get more XP per kill as well as spending less time running around.

But it's still true that it will end up being situational.

You would probably want the guys with the big weapons to be aiming mid, to prevent too many headshots or limb removals. This is actually a pretty interesting idea.
