Uhm, leveling in all those games takes far longer than leveling in sk.

And actually, games like Oblivion/Morrowind(Bethesda) are just as fun at level 1 as they are level 50. SK sadly can't have that. (Especially since all of Oblivion was DESIGNED to be fun no matter what level, because of the level scaling)

If anyone would like to coordinate with me IC and I can show you some not nearly as popular albeit low lvling areas that are accessible and practical, send me a PM. Ever since the implementation of the familiarity system, the lvling in SK has sped up exponentially, so long as people are creatively considering the areas they're lvling and transitioning between. We also need a coordinated effort with builders to develop more accessible questing in order to allow the new players the ability to interact with the SK environment in more effective ways to improve the learning curve and encourage exploration beyond just a small xp gain. Players should have the option of lvling to GM by quests and/or fighting, not just by fighting. I've posted several times on a few quests in very simple and accessible areas that have been broken for ages and no one's broken down to fix them. Achernar, Alshain... uh, who are the imms now? Would someone contact me to get some efforts put together to help revive SK? I have the time and the computer skills and the obvious dedication to SK, I'm still confused as to why you guys absolutely refuse to utilize me as a resource and tool for improvements. Any endorsements from anyone on my position?

I'm also curious as to the actual people behind the forum names too, my name's Kevin Couch and I've been involved with SK since early 2002, on the forums since 2003. I've seen changes come and go and I'd say I'm fairly familiar with the construct of nearly 90% of the areas in the game, except perhaps some of the newly revamped areas, but they won't take much to learn at this point. I'm institutionalized people, tap into my knowledge.

If you know the character you plan to play, you should have no problem roleplaying while training. Give training a bit more presidence, but sit in your home inn a bit and meet people, chat, and I stress ASK QUESTIONS a lot! Pretty soon you will find yourself leveling up with friends and/or mentors. Worked for me every time, great fun, great RP.

The problem with leveling isn't that we don't know how to do it. As has been stated many times, it's not hard. The problem is it's also not fun. It's a big barrier to many of us without a lot of time for games. What's so wrong about giving us a shortcut that lets us contribute to SK?

Roleplay during leveling is great. It also slows you down, so the barrier of hours is largely intact. That's especially true if your character's nature prevents him from taking the optimum path. Any good reason we can't wait till Expert for the bulk of this experience? By then, characters have enough tactical options for things to get more interesting.

It's also true you can roleplay without leveling at all. But at some point there's a question of how much disadvantage you're willing to tolerate. I've seen inn-sitters get killed by fireball splatter. Perfectly fine RP in that particular case, but waiting around for a rez still isn't fun OOCly. And even if the player can live with this, how about the character? You can't just roleplay what's OOCly convenient.

SK really can live with a little more instant gratification. The suggested measure doesn't spoil things for those who want slower early development. (And while I might wish for faster early leveling for everyone, we've tried suggesting that before, many times. Time to stop beating our heads against that particular tree.)

You're preaching to the choir. We just need more Dulrik attention and things will continue to improve. They have improved. I can see that much.

I am a relativly new to SK, I've played on and off for about 7 or 8 months now. I've never had a char above mentor lvl. I've just lost the interest in the game do to how long it takes to lvl. It seemingly is hard to remain interested when all you do is lvl. It's a little easier when you have good RP in the middle, but even with that RP it's just broing to sit for 40 (well i am slow and new so....50+ hours) of watching the same info scroll on the screen. Till your a high lvl you can't really participate in the PK events or even walking around is just dangerous if you dont' knwo where your going. Countless times I've died in the wild to random animal NPCs or some imp apearing from behind a tree and just owning me. I think a higher rate of lvling would be a good idea specially for those who are new, and for the venteran players how much of a difference does the time it takes to grind from creation to max lvl really make. The goal is really RP.

- I am new so I could be wrong if I am then so be it, but it's what I think.

When you're new, the slowness really just comes from not knowing where to go and what to do. It really isn't a straightforward thing in this game, for whatever reason, even though it's monotonous.

Someone should right a primo leveling guide for newbies or something.

IMO, the middle is the easy part. It's the parts where you're horrifically weak and have no combat/movement options, and the parts where you're very strong but have no leveling options, that are the big pain in the [REDACTED].

Leveling guide:

Get str mods so you max out str.

Learn how to use your weapon, most people can mentor sword/axe.

Get a full-enchanted weapon, preferably a two-handed one (the more damaging the better).

Get a good suit of armor, people are often willing to help (two major towns sells good armor).

Train second/third attack as soon as you can (people can often mentor you)

As for where to go specifically when leveling... I'm not sure I am allowed to write it here :-(.

There you go... You just decreased leveling time by 30%.
