That's actually fairly accurate. The recall change was probably the worst decision that was ever made in regards to the mud.

I was just stunned at the arrogance of it all. It was one of those "vision" changes, and it took months to repeal it. I think the biggest problem was that certain folks lost sight of the whole "make sure the consumer is happy" thing.

Yeah I was talking to Gailard on yim the other day and he was talking about how he left the mud during the recall changes. I was trying to talk him into coming back.

There was a very severe equipment shortage because of hoarders and a lack of generally useful equipment in the game, too. That, I think, had a lot to do with it too.

In case any of you were wondering what happened to make the playerbase drop from 100 - it went straight from 100 at peak to 60 at peak when a change was introduced that made the recall ability cost up to around 3 levels of experience per shot.

(In spite of my protest at the time, might I add. I believe the reason stated at the time was 'now that we have more than 100 players we can afford to lose some disgruntled older players in favor of newbies who will stick around'. Oops!)

IMHO the mud never really recovered from that.

Shortly after recall was reverted back, big time MMOs such as World of Warcraft started to surface and sucked even more people away from this game. I ended up hooked on WoW for a long time before I even considered coming back and I'm sure there are many others that started playing these MMOs, but haven't considered coming back.
