At low levels, spellcasters(like sorcs) are better than warriors. Why? Because they can sit behind a tanking pet and spam spells. And don't tell me the thrown daggers or the flamestrikes hurt you that much. Casters get the advantage of enchants as well.

Basically, you can go up to mentor/master easier as a sorc than a merc. After that it gets tougher for both of them. But still, a sorc can get xp just by spamming spells from the safety of an inn, a merc can't.

Casters > Warriors when it comes to levelling.

Or! You can take your merc and buy a two-handed weapon and suit of glistening tanso and be completely immune to damage until like master level! Yay!

It costs much less to get 1 single pet and sit naked behind it spamming magic missile than it costs to buy a whole tanso suit and get and enchant a good 2 hander.

If you want to play it with elite hookups though, as a sorc you can get some mana regen items and practically spam magic missile non stop. Is that a good argument? I don't think so, so don't bring me the argument of full tanso with 7/7 flamberges newbies.

rofl, D-A it's waaaay, easier to get some tanso armor and a flamberge as a newbie than it is to get a mana regen item, lol.

If I make a fighter I'll usually sit in the newbie school for about an hour getting 2~ obsidian and then go buy it myself.

I just got a necro to level 49 in about 70 (tons of AFK and stupid dieing/waiting for priest time in there too) hours (took like 150 to get GM but that was because I literally stopped leveling). Caster leveling is boring as hell, but it's definatly not slower then melee. The only class that I truly think gets the shaft for leveling are shaman because normally their melee abilities are sub-par and they don't have any good damage spells inside (which is where most areas are).

Yes. Shaman is by far my favorite class in the game, but they suck horribly at leveling.

Shamans I found them really easy to level myself.

You get access to axe, one of the best damage weapon skills, you have mithril and you have spirit aura. If you add blindness in the mix to render caster NPCs useless, you have a great plvling machine. And when the time comes, you fight 8-9 GM priest npcs at once and spam spirit horde, getting many ticks with one mana pool.

See, I was thinking about that, since they removed groups of three GM priests from a certain area that you could use call lightning in...I think I'd be too afraid of the spirit horde mishing a bash here and there and getting destroyed by GM harm?

Not to mention to even GET spirit hoard and mithril you have to be a rather high level, which in and of itself is a pain in the [REDACTED] to get to.

Hello? Do you know how much low and mid quality mithril is in SK? Too much. After any reboot/crash, I can take a lvl 20 character and go after a certain camoed NPC and get myself a full suit.

It won't be the elitest, but you don't need more than that to GM a shaman. I know because I've managed to GM one dressed in brass from Nerina.
