There was a time when Delear was 99% immune to ANY spell and not by magic resistance but pure saves and magic protection. (eg. more than 100 lightning bounces did something 2-4% dmg to an aged delf with no trained hps - triple fods did 8% etc etc). Even then Peso's paladin managed to land a BOG for 87% dmg.
Taking in mind that magma did 15% on the first hit (which is double dmg) and then I healed during the secondary dmg while standing(before the latest changes)...87% is totally insane. BOG is broken and it's been mentioned more than enough times. The only protection against it, is mirror image since magic resistance prohibites any protective spell.
What trully makes the spell overpowered is it's casting time, since whatever you are trying to cast in the mean while will be lost due to concentration loss- resulting to an obliteration through spamming "bog delf".
PS. I am not 100% sure of this but I have the impression that even if the BOG misses to a mirror image, still have chances for the nimbus to take effect on the target.
I'm middle of the road on this whole thing, but "prohibites any protective spell" is way too strong. It makes protective spells end up costing more mana to cast successfully due to failures/resists, and requires you to remove things to buff up to avoid the MR.
You can still buff up with MR.
P.S.: I'm having Deja Vu since I could have sworn I had the MR talk for casters with someone one day ago.
Not sure about anyone else but I've used staves/scrolls to buff for spells unavailable to my class and also to keep my concentration at low levels.
With the little magic resistance i had, it was far too annoying wasting 6 charges of the weak stone skin stave to get the effects only once...Especially when you are in combat.
As far as for looking the general picture of the paladin class, I think Holy word is the answer on fighting a necromancer. BOG might be fine against halflings/ other races but still overpowered against Deep elves. It's only a reason for ppl to avoid picking the specific race for mathematical reasons.
