Why not just remove the spells?

There is no reason why the goodly gods wouldn't give their clergy a way to discern someone's nature before inducting them into the faith.

Why is it you think they should be removed? Just to make spying easier?

That would just make it so no one trusted anyone.

Yeah it would make it so you have to earn peoples trust rather than immedietly look at them and say okay, that guys evil.

I agree with Rial. Some of the best assassins are the ones who befriend their enemies. However the way this is going, it is utterly impossible to mislead anyone because people see a dark aura around your character and are like "EVOL! DAI!"

Trust should be earned, not given out to anyone just because they have the same aura. If anyone had to earn trust, it would be the grey auras.

Look at the poll count. You guys are pretty much alone in your thinking.

I wouldn't be against the removal of know alignment, I think its a fairly OOC thing, but detect aura?

Uhm, thats a staple in all fantasy games. Removing it would make it far to easy to become the assassins you want, and again. A priest of a light aura god wouldn't induct someone that was evil, the priests god gives them the ability to see aura's for this reason.

There are other far more powerful spells/skills in the game. Being able to know someone's aura isn't a problem.

People just love to abuse these spells so they can get away with PK.

Then extend my idea of having the same special room for cabals for religions in which it matters.

I just don't like how passive it is. As I said the last time this came up, I think know alignment should be scrapped and detect aura should act more like know alignment does, where you have to target someone, or it should be a shortly timed spell to get a general feel around you. Innately knowing the aura of those who walk near you all the time only taking a concentration hit makes it too easy to guess at people's intentions and takes away a lot of mystery that's in the game without those advantages.

This is my stance on this, pretty much. I'd like something a bit deeper than our current "oh I cast a spell and instantly know" solution. It seems to me like it cheapens the possibility for roleplay geared towards subversion and the ability to be duplicitous.

I said this the last time this came up. There are ways to work around the problem of alignment already in the game. But this knowledge is IC-only and is not appropriate for the forums. If I told you, I'd have to kill you.

It shouldn't only be accessible to a small number of people. I would like people to finally be judged by their actions and not the color of their aura. I think it is worst kind of rp to say, "You dark, die!" I might expect that from a giant, but this is getting silly.
