This just keeps coming up. I've given my answer before and now I'll give it again. I don't support making levelling faster. As others have said, it's actually faster to level now than it was in the past. What I do support is making changes to the game to allow you to have fun playing and participating at levels below master. I opened that up for suggestions and I think there was... one. I think it was Goldlantern.

Then I came up with my own suggestions based on an idea from Achernar. That idea is cohorts. Go do a forum search if you haven't read about it yet. It's only one step though. Certainly there could be more ideas. And ultimately you just need to step back, breathe, and spend more time RPing before getting to GM. In order to break this extremely lame cycle of "needing to GM before playing", YOU have to be prepared to take that step as well.

This idea has some merit, trying to find a group can be tough. Especially in the quiet hours, and if you bothered to RP, you can get pushed into the position you have trouble getting a group even if people are available.

By the way, the WoW comparison isn't a valid one, because you can solo to 60 in WoW easy. I did it, only grouped occasionally. And that was with a pansy-assed paladin. In the main I got into groups for instance farming, the quote of "I've never seen a paladin with so much epic +def gear" was once said about me... But that was before the new addon, I quit for the lack of RP and came back here. In WoW you can quest your way to a decent level, that is much harder in SK. Yes, there may be a lot of quests out there, but they don't all have a big glowing question mark over their heads to show you it's there.

Almost makes one think that where there's smoke there's fire, eh Dulrik?

However, once at 50, there is an incredibly thick glass ceiling between those players that have the knowldege needed to excel at the end-game of SK (i.e. staying alive in a fight) and those that dont. Perhaps your energy is better directed at breaking though this glass ceiling prior to hitting 50. Good luck and if you can do it, I salute you.

This made me laugh, and was a pleasant start to my morning. Since you probably have no idea who I have played and have never interacted with them, thanks for the good wishes, but I think I'll be ok.

That's really what I was expecting, so that ends this thread.

Actually I said master, because that used to be when things could be competitive in the arena of PK. Since the master to GM levels are substantially harder to get alone as a non spellcaster class, this isn't a trivial distinction.

That idea is cohorts.

I just read the cohorts thread and I like it. However, if you're the kind of person (like me) who is looking for a balanced RP/PK experience, that doesn't help you at all. It gives you some rp interaction, which is great, and slightly increases leveling speed, which is also nice, but that doesn't solve the fact that if you spend 2 hours leveling a day, it'll still be a real life month before you're in the PK scene.

I'll post my thoughts on cohorts in that thread, but I still find leveling boring as hell. Put it this way- I'd rather read and post on the forums than login and level. It is THAT boring.

This thread did, however, remind me of some reasons why solo leveling in WoW is bearable and not so in SK. I'll make a post about that too after I organize my thoughts.

That seems to be a common symptom.

There are millions of tips I, or anyone else could provide you with leveling. All you have to do is ask(I wouldn't ask Ardith, saw him lvling on once, laughed at him >_<)

The only thing I think is harder about leveling now, is you have to move every few levels to keep on to of the xp. The reason that kind of sucks is when you don't know where to go next. But that can be solved just asking ICly I suppose. Other than that it is better.

Ie.
1. The introduction of mentors to train you and get your skills up there. (Skills/Spells=Faster leveling).

2.Ability to get decent weapons and armor from NPCs. (Hell, there is even a lot more +stat npc eq)

3. A lot of NPCs in places you level drop phat cash which helps you do #2.

The best thing I can say is talk to people, knowledge of the game and where things are is the number one thing.

I like the fact that it took me years of playing this game to easily be able to GM characters. My first few characters never got by mentor/master/champion. Big deal, you can still pk with a mentor/master/champion, just not nearly as well.

If you want to play as a GM it's balls easy to ask someone what leveling zone to go to.

While I agree with everything you said, I'd like to point out that the area command is improved and can actually be used now for ideas of "where to go next".

Ah yes, glad you mentioned that actually. I just recently used the area command. I must say it looks a lot better than it used to. I think before it listed almost everything and anything.
