Play a warlock with maximum charisma then. You'll GM in 10 hours.

Do this for about one hundred more hours, and then you can do something with me.

If people still aren't roleplaying until they reach Master/GM/whatever arbitrary status level, shame on them.

Sigh.

So these are my options for leveling faster (which I knew you all would say anyways, I was just hoping there'd be more of a lenient push two years later):

1. Abuse the leveling system, which is only necessary to be abused because it takes so long to level. (Cyra)
2. Contact somebody else for very specific leveling tips that I clearly cannot figure out on my own, and probably involves something in category #1. (Algon)
3. Play a warlock. (Cyra)
4. Use OOC contacts to obtain equipment/assistance that a new or unconnected player would not have access to, and is probably a violation of the rules anyways. (I suspect players, especially established ones, of doing this.)
5. Devote my life to playing SK so that I can play a master level char within a month. (that other guy whose name is too far back for me to recall)

Please let me know if I missed anything.

...

WHY ARE YOU GUYS OK WITH THIS? I feel like people are compelled to subject others to this pain simply because they had to go through it too. "Let's make everyone equally miserable while leveling."

Thuban:

Yes, I could RP when leveling, and I would if I ever saw anybody who felt like standing still to chat.

Seeing as how most leveling areas are not anywhere public, that's not likely.

Oh yea, and it takes me a good chunk of my PE, which some classes need for skills, to get back to a public area.

**********

I don't understand how people can come up with an argument as for why leveling should not be faster, other than the fact that it would be "unfair" for them to spend so much time leveling and for new chars to do it faster. Well, unless this is your last character ever, YOU will benefit as well on your next one. Yes, there will be more higher level chars around. Is that so bad? If you're so good at what you do, you shouldn't be afraid of more GMs running around.

The comment wasn't intended to single you out in some way - and yes, I've noticed a similar problem myself when playing in mortal guise recently.

RP is great and all, but ultimately all it does is break up your leveling to a small degree. You can delay leveling all you want, but unless you want to play a strictly RP based character you need to level eventually. Even if you just want to help others with rezs/food/buffs/equipment and never harm a single PC, you need levels.

Ideally, the two pursuits are capable of coexisting, as opposed to being ghettoized into entirely-separate activities. If that's not the case, I agree that we have a problem.

As an old fart thats been sucked back into the game I can state with authority that it is a lot easier for the generic player to level to 50 today than it was in 2001.

However, once at 50, there is an incredibly thick glass ceiling between those players that have the knowldege needed to excel at the end-game of SK (i.e. staying alive in a fight) and those that dont. Perhaps your energy is better directed at breaking though this glass ceiling prior to hitting 50. Good luck and if you can do it, I salute you.

You obviously don't recall spell spamming.
