That is sort of a double edged sword. Some people already don't take the time, obviously, and I think in the end, it would be more of a benefit than a burden. Why? Because it also means that every Bob, Mary, and Jane lowbie could jump in with the possibility that they may, indeed not be killed as well. It's a good way to get people to stop showing you mercy, but still, the lowbie wars would be fun to watch before everyone turned this off.

Do you mean that the protection would stop at Journeyman? Or through journeyman? It sounds good to have it all the way up through apprentice.

Which do you think is better?

Would it be possible to maybe add to the range of levels below you that you can consider. What I mean is, could we add things below you could kill XXX naked? It may help the situation to be able to tell who is way below you, and who is waaaaay below you. Maybe something like "Aww, isn't the little thing cute?" and "Don't look at XXX too hard! You may kill him/her!"

Actually, I'll 'out' Jinjan as looting the backpack from a novice who had no adjective and no description. Backpack contained all the newbie's food, water and coin. So when next fighting, his regen rate would have been crap (hungry and thirsty).

In such a situation, all it would take for a newbie to get completely stuck is to die and/or lose their weapon - then they'd have no method to recover on their own to get coin and then buy food and water. Regardless of the size of the playerbase, some players (especially in quieter timezones) may not have the luxury of asking others for help.

Lastly, bear in mind that an in-theme player who chooses not to eat bodyparts is rather screwed if they lose all their coin along with any food they bought - true newbies do NOT know about banks, but they learn very quickly about food and water (and probably regen-rates as a consequence).

The golden rule is there for a reason - someone learning the game is entitled to some consideration, rather than just exclaiming 'Teron is dangerous' as IC justification. You don't have to roll out the red carpet and welcome them - but surely a gruff manner is preferable to treating them as just another target...

I think if it were to work, it should stop by journeyman. By then they have enough hours under their belt to understand generally what happens on raids and whatnot.

Just for the record, I've also put forward the suggestion that at creation characters get money in the bank as well as in their hand - this way those giving advice to a newbie after their first 'completely naked' death could suggest checking their bank account - avoiding any risk of aiding someone OOCly if the RP wouldn't fit.

While we're on the topic of code changes (*smirks at Dulrik*), there was the other suggestion below...

Suggested this one before. General response to the idea was, most veteran players wanted to do whatever they wanted instead of staying there and (forced to) roleplay. GG.

Since we do in fact recognise total newbies by the creation question "Are you new to Shattered Kingdoms?" perhaps only those who answer Yes should have auto-manifest turned on?

Possible bad side affect (already mentioned): Nobody takes the time to con anyone. Attack city, oh a PC, attack PC (mercy will interfere if it's too low). This is something I wouldn't want to see, to be honest. People should still stay their hand completely on lowbies. But in a vacuum I like the idea.

From Apprentice-1 to Journeyman-3 (Dulrik, I know you don't like those numbers, but bear with it, plz) the final blow becomes stun. This means the char can still lose body parts along the way. You have to decide whether to actually finish the char off or stop.

From Novice-1 to Initiate-5 the attack is called off when the victim is at 40% or somesuch thing. A message comes across the screen: You call off the attack to decide if this youngster actually needs to die. If you continue the attack, the final blow becomes stun. You have to decide whether to actually finish the char off or stop.

This way one range of chars can see nearly the whole affect of PK and another range is shown more mercy. Condensed, 2 kill commands for app-1 to jman-3 and 3 kill commands for nov-1 to init-5.

Why not attach the 'consider' command to other commands, eliminating possible excuses...

Implement a toggle command which lists the challenge rate of all/low lvl characters as you enter a room.
This can be done by colors or small additions next to their names.

Obvious exits: n e(closed) s w
An ugly female human is sitting here.
An elegant male half-elf is here.

or

Obvious exits: n e(closed) s w
An ugly female human is sitting here.
An elegant male half-elf is here. (Naked kill)

----------------------------------------------------------------

An addition to the 'look' command, adding special colors depending to the challenge rate of characters.

eg.
Look elegant
You are looking at an elegant blah blah etc etc

<worn on finger> a gold ring of the grand general noob (superb)
<worn around neck> a leather noobish collar (superb)
<worn on body> a set of noobish robes (awful)
<worn about body> backpack (awful)
<worn about waist> a hardened noob belt(good)
<worn around wrist> a silver bracelet of noobs(superb)
<both hands> a two handed noob-scythe

You could kill an elegant male human naked
