Please see next post....

You ride a large, black horse east.

The Taproom of the Hart and Rose
The atmosphere is thick and close, pregnant with the musk of spilt ale,
wood smoke and cooked food, heavy with the noise of boisterous conversation, song and laughter. Sawdust is spread liberally over the worn slate flagstones of the floor, upon which heavy wooden tables and benching press together, crowded with patrons that compete for the attentions of the serving wenches that move between them juggling platters of steaming food and flagons of ale. A fire crackles in the hearth set beneath a wide stone chimney brest in the north wall. An open wooden staircase in the south
climbs up to the rooms above.
Obvious exits: e w u ne(closed)
(11) A scrumptious looking steak is here.
The sliced-off arm of a human is lying here.
The severed finger of Meleana is here.
The severed finger of Grimm is here.
A sign by the door reads "Keep yer Horses OUT!".
A large notice hanging from the rafters reads, "GATES ARE PROHIBITED HERE!"
A cork notice board hangs on the east wall.
A hand-pump is here to dispense beer.
A battered old bin stands in the corner of the room.
(Glowing) A festive Yiggmas Tree decorated with beer mugs is here.
(Charmed) A large, black horse is here mounted by you.
The swordsman Halfdane is here, quietly drinking by the fire.
A heavy imperial warhorse stands here, chaffing impatiently at the bit.
A small male halfling is flying here.
An enormous wolf-like creature is here.
A strange-looking woman is here.
A black bay destrier stands here, restlessly pawing at the ground.
An emaciated female gnome is flying here.
A supercilious female deep-elf is flying here.
A striped polar bear is here.
A winged abomination is here.
A mercurial female human is flying here.
A legionnaire giant is here, surveying his surroundings.
A vicious male minotaur is here.
A large black horse is here, pawing at the ground.
A robust male half-elf is resting here.
Gord walks in from the west.

I demand to know what the hell is going on. I've been playing for barely a month and I've been attacked twice by people I've never even met before. I walk into an inn and get torn apart by a bunch of people?! How the hell is this good roleplay? For Christ's sake this is my first time playing, and I've just gotten to rank apprentice. I thought lowbie killing was banned?
If lowbie killing and random PK sprees are allowed, then I might as well just quit. I hope an admin sees this...as I'm highly pissed about this.

First of all - when you see corpses surrounding a city and corpses littering the streets, the guards are yelling nonstop of an attack, and the Inn is filled with undead creatures - you should think before you walk in when you are an elf.

Obviously killing you was unnecessary. I personally was there, and I obviously 'looked' at you (and considered you) instead of attacking you. You were attacked by a newer player who happened to be in a group with many experienced ones. Sorry.

When you are an elf you gain huge numbers of natural enemies.

I'll keep your tip in mind next time about the bodies. But it's hard to know what's undead and what's not when you've got more important things to worry about, such as where the heck I am. Regardless, elf or not, shouldn't one have a motive to kill someone? I mean, SK is a *RP* mud, right?

The answer is pretty much there. I think it was extremely lame of the person to attack you instead of spitting on you, when it was obvious you were naked. However, you are an elf and she is an a deep-elf, races that by their very nature hate each other enough to kill on site (see help enmity). But basically you got caught in the middle of of a big PK situation. My recommendation is to find someone on the other side to help you out, and hopefully you reported them to the judge for the crime of murder before you logged out.

If your an elf, expect to be attacked on sight by deep-elves and darkies.

A lot of darkies (and lighties) consider "help enmity" to be all the motive they need. It's not an excuse, and I don't exactly approve of it, but I've found that that's the way it is. As an elf, you do tend to get attacked on sight by the evil. As a deep-elf, you attend to get attacked on sight by the "good". I'm not saying it's right, but it's definitely something to be prepared for/expected.

Killing low-level characters if frowned upon in this game, but it happens still. Elves are known to always be on the side of good (see help elf and help emnity) so an evil army killing them is hardly out of character, especially when the country is at war.

See this as an experience to set up a good background for your character (killed at a young age for no reason by an evil invading army) and as a chance to build relationships with more established characters. Send tells and get help and they will value your aid in defending the country and perhaps see you as an ally in the future.

It's hard to know when a country is at war or not when you're trying to get how the game goes. From the responses, it seems like random killing of newbies is allowed, so have it your way--I'm leaving. It's hard enough trying to figure out how to play a mud. I don't need random people trying to hunt me down. I'm already dying enough trying to train, don't need people helping me along. Have fun seeking out other newbs to PK.

Newbies aren't "hunted down," and if you are still Novice, then 'auto newbie' for the most part should prevent you from dying. Also, "random killing" isn't really allowed at all, and your death wasn't so much random as it was really a case of wrong place, wrong time. You don't lose much from death anyways, and it's not very difficult to get back on your feet just by talking, and you could use the experience of dying to an evil character as possible future character motivation for yourself.
