Hi, me again. I was wondering, is it possible for the MUD to send a blank carriage return to all players during ticks? I'm asking because I thought it would be a great idea to have your hp and mana(and move) update automatically without having to manually input something to the game. This would mainly be beneficial while sleeping when there is no real activity to send you a carriage return other than you typing in a command. Just an idea I had, probably unecessary but I wanted to see what other opinions on the idea were. I think it would be a great add on, that way while sleeping people could do other stuff during the downtime like laundry or homework, and not have to remember to hit enter every few minutes to see where their stats are at etc.

Two flaws I see with this idea.

First, I see it potentially increasing tick lag. Perhaps it wouldn't be anything unpleasant, but perhaps it would. Some testing might reveal that.

Second, this only promotes the "walk away from the game" mentality, for which there is already too much incentive. In my opinion, you should have a reason to be at the keys every minute of play time, otherwise the game just becomes something to leave on in the background, and then you might as well allow botting at that point because that's what playing will amount to....only less consistent and effective.

I do like that this idea would cut way, way, way down on logs in which any training was done. I spam commands like they were going out of style while resting. Largely, though, I think that's just something to do when sleeping.

Yeah, I can see a whole set of new triggers based on this new tick. Like wake up by trigger between training battles when you sleep to regain mana etc. While it's simple to just press enter and see how it goes.

In detail, one could go to a levelling area, set the trigger to kill NPC, set trigger to sleep on "is DEAD" and then set trigger to wake up and attack next NPC on tick. A new era of afk levelling would arise.

I say no. Coding should not be done just to compensate for laziness.

You all are damn dunces if you think you can't currently trigger off what exists now.

Every 15 seconds you have your client send something: if HP > 80 or ME > 80 then stand;l w;l e;l n;l s;l sw;l nw;l se;l ne on first X is Ydistance then move Ydistance to X;kill x;if IS DEAD!! then sleep.

I find it a horribly lame excuse and there's no reason Sk shouldn't auto-update its players at a new tick with their new statistics when they aren't sleeping.

What you described is botting and is already against the rules and will get you deleted. That isn't a valid argument against this change.

I see no reason against implementing this. A fine idea.

To address the laziness theory: so many features could be called catering to laziness, I fail to see how adding a very small convenience is any different. It'd just be a nice feature.

Increased propensity to afk: I know when I'm sleeping that I'll walk away from the keys for longer than I know it will take for me to regen, because I don't want to have to wait for any regen upon return. I don't think this would change that at all, but if anything get me back at the keys sooner than otherwise. Not really an important difference either way, IMO.

Potential abuse? Weak.
