Why does it have to take like 1000000 hours to level from around JM to expert, mentor, master? I agree that leveling from mentor and forward should be tough but endless NPC grinding already from JM just seems silly. A character isn't much fun to play before around expert anyway.

How does this encourage RP? Area familiarity screws it all up since noone is ever in the same range as you and thus isn't in the same area and you are unable to level in the good places yourself because you get wtf owned!

I'm pretty sure that most (if not all) agree with you here. I'm currently leveling a(nother) priest and I have about 35 hours, perhaps five of which I have spent dead. I've done no RP yet and she's only apprentice (1). I also try to take advantage of the familiarity system, switching areas as soon as I start to get a penalty AND I'm lucky enough to have a pole-mace.

Needless to say darkies, it's going to be a while before you can have a rez [REDACTED].

I agree, leveling is far too much of a hassle. If I delete my main without having leveled an alt beforehand, I can slip out of activity for up to three months, happened last time, simply because leveling is such a [REDACTED].

Sorry, but I cannot agree with this thread. I am a n00b and I just got a priest to mentor in 40 hrs, 5 of which was rp. You just have to know where to go and when, what to attack and how. PM me if you have any questions and I'll help you out. I would have to say lvling before jman sucks for almost any class save for fighters.

While I agree that lvling up to apprentice should be quicker, I do think that the speed of lvling is just fine from apprentice+. At least from a lightie/graybie perspective.

I have a much easier time leveling lighties than I do darkies. I just don't know of enough places with light aura NPCs that are feasible to use as training areas.

Eh, I am about to hit master in 80 hours... I wasted a lot of time too. You just need to know where to go. Ask ppl in the game or else ask ppl outside of the game ( though I don't condone that  ).

There is a path I usually take and spend no more than 3-5 levels at each area and rarely stay at one past knowing it like the back of my hand. And I am not even close to having the powerleveling ability of some ppl here.

I think that leveling really has gotten much harder on the lower levels. My biggest frustration when playing a character is how much of my time spent "playing" is actually sleeping. Which is a waste of my time. It makes me want to go look at the forums or check my email. If I didn't have to sleep so much, maybe I'd enjoy playing more. Depending on what kind of build you're making, you can spend easily half your play time finding other ways to occupy yourself waiting to regen HP/ME/PE.
