Principled should not kill grey auras for purely selfish reasons (e.g. equipment.)

However, by 'punishment' you mean curse, then no, they shouldn't be cursed either.

It should be handled in character, with either their god (I'm assuming they follow a religion) or a superior finding out about it and reaming them for it.

Sorry, that isn't even good. That is actually evil. To purge the impure and burn the heretic is similar to the crusades and the spanish inquisition. Neither of them being good any way.

You are missing one very fundamental difference. The Spanish crusaders, did not have the actual blessing of their god to do such. Gods IRL, no matter how you see it, do not have the presence and activity that gods in SK do. Heck, you can't even be sure RL gods exist or not. Its just a matter of belief. On the other hand, in SK, the power of gods is evident even through their priests. When a priest of alshain casts 'flamestrike', alshain sees hears his call, and answers with a pillar of fire.

As was previously discussed, a scrupulous char should never kill another lightie. For almost any reason. You aren't even following the guidelines of principled and scrupulous. You are making up your own now.
Please note, This character mentioned here does not see the other people of 'lesser' races as 'people'. He sees and understands them as animals. With that in mind, yes, he follows all the guidelines mentioned above.

Show me where Dulrik said to go and murder people just because they were not of a good alignment? Show me where Alshain said to go murder people just because they are not of good alignment? You won't find it, because it doesn't exist. Burning people at the stakes and purging evil is to go out and murder people just because they are tainted. And now, you are no better than evil trying to kill you.

To this, I've only one thing to say to you.

Halcidan.

To my knowledge, he was extremely favored by alshain, and he did stop at nothing.

I don't care about one poorly played lightie. Tonth was favored by Aludra and he was probably the worst of what I am talking about. Don't say, "But xxxx did it." That is one of the lamest excuses known to date.

Halcidan was a very good example of a paladin hammerite. *shrugs*

At least we all thought so.

Death is temporary. If before you kill the guy all he is doing is skulking around the desert acting like a thug, sending him to the afterlife make do him some good.

I believe this is wide enough of a command for interpretation and equivocation.

Additionally a principled character is not taking gear for "selfish" reasons. His life is devoted to his virtuous cause and anything he has is used for that noble purpose.

Lastly, beating someone up, taking the gear, but sparing the life can be considered even more cruel. Killing the guy who has not accepted Alshain into his heart may bring him redemption through rebirth. (and if not, then the world is better off without him)

If you want to make the game more realistic, we should be buying our gear from reputable craftsmen who continually pump out more as it gets broken, not killing evil people for good gear.

A real principled adventurer would have a rapport with a good craftsman of adamantite (there is plenty of adamantite ore available) and would be equipped at all times, not begging old paladins or wearing armor previously worn by undead wraiths.

I have heard Aludra mentioned twice in this thread. My my, we are the example to be had.

When I joined the faith, I fear there were not many good examples of Aludrans as far as what my opinion of them was. Yet, that does not mean that they were not good Aludrans. Tonth was a dwarf and that heritage to me often seems abrasive. Tonth was very abrasive especially to Kelarim and I. Some of that could have to do with the differences between elves and dwarves.

I personally was more than disappointed to finally find a gorgeous gown in game that I wanted to wear and found it was held by a greybie. I could not and would not kill her for it. I am not going to kill for a dress, especially not the wife of a leader. I wanted to cry.

Also, Muktar, the discussion was about principled characters not scrupulous ones. Those are two different lightie alignments. A principled is the very disciplined, very moral, by the book character. A scrupulous in my opinion is moral but lacks the hardcore discipline, and is a little more cutt-throat at getting what they want accomplished.

Well to me if it says that they value life and freedom above all else, then killing should be a last resort. As one said, if it's a PC and the grey character has a history of being mean / evil, then sure, try and reform him before killing.

if it's an NPC...Well depends. If it's a pawnshop guy who steals from you or so, then yeah, take it back. As for killing for gear? Really iffy, but they shouldn't kill grey aura just for gear. That puts them no better than brigands / thieves.

Location: I am at one with my duality.
I've actually battled this problem IC. The leather at a certain scout camp that has both darkies and greybies is awfully tempting lowbie gear for light armor classes, and I actually had to reprimand a superior lightie for killing them, and nearly swore never to wear such blood stained armor (though he did reason that the killing would have been a -complete- waste if the armor wasn't used.)

The fact is that principled, and even scrupulous characters, should not be killing anything for equipment specifically. They can justify killing those with a known dark purpose, but greybies are out of the question, and the lightie killing lightie situation has been dealt with by request.

Now, did they deserve to eat a curse? Well, that's a grey area (pun intended.) I would personally handle things differently if it is a first offense. Someone suggested coming to them as their patron IMM or informing their superiors. Both are great options. There is also the option of confronting them as another NPC from the area, which I think would be interesting. All of those options promote RP rather than just make a player feel bad about what they've done. If after an IC attempt is made to try and change the behavior there is no change, then it is time for a curse.

Still, that leaves lighties (and greybies who aren't as into killing everyone) with little options for attaining any equipment that sits on a greybie. So, using this thread as a platform for ideas, I suggest a barter command that acts like request, but is meant to be used by any alignment against any NPC and comes with a cost, literally. You use the syntax of barter (NPC item) and then the NPC names a price. The price could be money, a list of items (I imagine food or dress to be appropriate in some cases), or maybe even a quest-like favor. Keeping it simply to money might make the coding easier, but I think the other options are fun.

With a barter command, lighties no longer have any excuse as to why they've decided to kill some poor sap to dress himself, and it increases the interactive ability of NPCs in general. If people seem interested enough, I'll make another thread.
