And for a reason for it to stay as it is:

Maledictions are one of the shaman's specialties. Further, frenzy's value as a malediction is why it's a Veteran spell for shamans instead of Novice.

Suck it up, Salandarin.

We're going to play a game I like to call "reading comprehension".

May I ask what the reasoning behind this is?

It was more of a question, than a suggestion.

It was on my mind as I've been thinking up priest v bard strategies, and was deeply saddened to find frenzy blocked from my available implements of ownage. I understood the mechanical reason behind blocking it (heavens would it be lame), but in a game where "You can't do that." is so hated, I was curious as to the IC reasoning behind it.

It says allies, so why not add a check that if they are in your group, they can have frenzy cast on them? If you are in the same group, it should reason that they are also going to aid you in someway.

What about charm person or dominate.

Wouldn't they still be allies by force of magic or will? Unwilling allies are still allies. Just don't expect them to be friendly afterwards.

Charm person or dominate most likely would be broken with frenzy drop to int. So sorceror A charms priest B. Priest B casts frenzy sorceror A to "help" them. Then is uncharmed then beats them up.

And that is impossible due to the exact same reasons that a sorceror being charmed cannot cast cancellation on himself...

This is a good idea, avoid the offense aspect, but making it more useful with various allies.

I'm not Salandarin's number one fan, but I've often asked myself the same question about frenzy. Especially given the wording that is (or used to be maybe?) in the help file.

Beside that, the IC reasoning is fairly shoddy. Your god doesn't like him? And yet you can flamestrike people who your god really really does like and he (or she) doesn't really ever seem to care enough to stop you.

As for this "shamans are the malediction class!" jazz, so what? You might as well say that mercenaries should be the only class to receive fourth attack, or swashbucklers are the only people who should be able to use a rapier or a sabre.
