Everyone's entitled to their opinion. Mine happens to be that even thinking about a centralized newbie zone makes me want to cry. I don't think it makes all that much IC sense in Shattered Kingdoms, and that's what I care about first and foremost. It's that sort of thematic consistency that has always made me prefer this MUD to some others I've experienced, as a matter of fact.

Terrible idea.

If CRS was the headshot to RP

Ok, I think I've scanned most of this.

If the largest 2 objections are:
1) player base does not support this
2) it makes no IC sense to have dwarves/gnomes/delfs start in same place, then....

1) don't make it a newbie-starting point option at game start, but for RP purposes,
2) add a newbie school in Craeftilian
3) add a newbie school in the dwarven area down there (Verlain?)
4) add a quest that will get a player to a trainer of deep toungue to a respectfable level in the newbie areas. Being a newbie area, it'd become inaccessible to people between amateur and mentor.
5) consider adding some quests that bring some interactions to the 3 newbie schools.

I'd not be adverse to assisting someone on building, either, if this suggestion is entertained. I do see a lot of interest in it. I also could see the deep elf city getting a face lift to remove some of the OOC knowledge out of the descriptions as well, and booking it.

This is my opinion stated better than I could hope to state it. The fact that you could start in different kingdoms is what made me stick with this MUD over the thousands of others I was searching through. Each kingdom has a ton of history, and I think a unified newbie school would be a huge step in taking away the pride of hailing from the north, the east, or the west, you get the idea.

If there needed to be a kingdom for the deep, I would suggest making a new newbie school somewhere in the middle where you can get to each city through a series of tunnels and have a portal stone near by. If there needed to be a player group, I'd make it something like the MC. The RP behind it would be a tenuous pact between the three deep races. Each are bent by their lust for gold, knowledge, and power just enough to cooperate and bring order to the underground. This is only a loosely thought out idea, and I honestly think we'd need some more cabal consolidation in order to see this come about.
