Considering I could find no better title, I mean when you walk in a room and you see for example that there is a painting of a lady etc. Then typing "look painting" will give you another short description of said painting. What I wanted to ask is, how often do you look at these descriptions when you enter a new room? Do you think they enhance the atmosphere of the game or do you just ignore them?

They do imo. It's more like the feeling that you notice "something" more abstract and then you may focus on a detail or something.

I've fiddled around on other MUDS that go so far as to have a mini desc for every single noun in the room desc . . . and you have to look at everything if you're on a quest or something like that. That is incredibly tiresome, but I think the general idea of it is splendid. I like that in SK it's items of note. I read them often, but you don't necessarily miss out on 80% of things if you don't take the time to look at them.

I like them. I like finding them. I used to like putting them in. I Don't feel too put out when I either miss them, or when I look to see them and they're not there. They're unusual enough to be an occasional treat, but not so critical you feel cheated if there's not one there.

I especially like them when they give a bit of extra depth or history, background that isn't critical to the game or your enjoyment of it, offers no especial advantage, but gives information that buffs out the whole experience of playing if you do happen to luck on finding it.

My favorite extended description can be found within the tailor's shop in Craeftlin (sp?).

I prefer the tapestry in an ancient Temple.

Probably because I wrote it. :P

It's part of what makes SK, SK.

Don't I know it Goldlantern. Got invited to build an area for another MUD, and built it to SK style standards... got complained at by the owners for making it look too good it showed up the rest of the MUD :drunk: :D

I really like these things, the MUD I played before had tons of them, but no color. It makes an area so much more, so much better. Especially with colors available in room descriptions to draw attention to them, it is the perfect tool for builders and I mourn that it is not used more on SK than it is.
