Yeah.. even in my newblyness I can see a few things that are off. He's got the basics right though. No one does give them a proper chance and people keep following the advice for their spec.s (Or just plane weapon suggestions for barbs) based on what is popular, when each race, player, and player group can significantly alter what is and will be good for them.
Right before people laughed at the sickle my dorf, Orrin, was ripping things to bits. He was one of these fabled MC dwarves and that helped him be pretty stout, but I'm sure creative people can get along just fine without having to go into that specific group.
Though, I will NEVER forget the time that Orac's dwarf and mine fought in Nerina with like three other PCs who had to send in a sorc. to petrify us and we took like near zero damage. I had my spec.ed long sword (
) on too, so we could have probably owned even harder had I had my sickle by that point.
I've stated it time and again, but Orrin was prime to be a PK machine but I need to stick with my RP [REDACTED] mentality.. He had very little RP, so he went into the trash. If I had him back I could make him pretty awesome all around, but you don't get second chances like THAT in Sk. Meh..
As with a lot of things in SK it takes the right player behind the keys to make it work. There were plenty of people who would rock the average giant or dwarf with a helf merc. So really it all lands on the style of how you play and what you pull off.
Or maybe I'm still too much of a newb.
