Cleave, intimidate, stuff like that is meant to be unique and should stay that way. Come up with new ideas, don't recycle old skills/spells.

Simple, remake the class entirely.

This kind of class isn't needed, anyways. I'd like to see something more unique (like, say, "martial maneuvers" in the vein of the 3.5E Warblade).

I get that it's overpowered
I'd like feedback from YOU as to how to fix it.

What we're trying to suggest is that it's so overpowered, we can't evaluate it further. You'll need to remove perhaps a third of the abilities, and which third you pick will define a quite different class.

If you really want something with the physical offense and defense of a paladin or hellion, you need to be really careful not to have more powerful spells than either. And for variety's sake, it'd be good to have some real differences in skills from either class.

I'm afraid I never got past 2nd edition. Could you expand on this a bit more?

Even if you had 3.5, you wouldn't know Warblade. It's a new base class from The Tome of Nine Swords that came out a couple months ago. The basic idea is that the class gets to pick extraordinary fighting maneuvers or stances that are almost like spells in that you can pick from more powerful lists as you go up in level.

Unlike spells, you can use every maneuver you know once per combat encounter. It creates a kind of class that feels like it has trained under an ancient master. An example of a character that would use a system like this would be The Bride from Kill Bill. She learned maneuvers like the Eagle Claw Eyeball Snatch and Five-Point Palm Exloding Heart Technique from Pai Mei, her kung-fu master.

Hint: The Warblade is totally awesome. More awesome than ninjas, I think.

This post would've been more awesome had Dulrik not beaten me to the explanation.

Heh, even that idea sounds recycled. Remember stances in Soul Calibur II when using Nightmare?

Interesting idea (very realistic) but it must blow only being able to use your skills once per fight.

Being able to use each maneuver once per fight is not a big deal except maybe at really low levels. The average combat lasts between 4-8 rounds, so it will not be long until you have at least that many maneuvers. Also there is a special action you can take to refresh your maneuvers during a fight, if you feel the need to do so.

But yes, while it is pretty fresh for D&D, it's nothing new to MUDs. A lot of games have warrior maneuvers that either use mana or move or both.

So, big D, since we know you have been reading this thread. Is there any plans to add another race/class?
