I see where you're coming from. But the way I view it, people ask for the final strike spell to be removed exactly out of the reason you mentioned: because it is extremely rare in its use. To give you an overall idea, in the five or so years I've been playing, I only used the spell once.

I can definitely see why it is wanted taken out, but what I dont really see is why it should be replaced with something very useful and highly effective instead.

I do agree that a spell with different effects could be interesting, but not one that is ups sorc attraction more than it already is. I may be wrong, but from what I see on the who lists, it seems to be one of the by far most played classes already.

The spells suggested so far are in my opinion way too good to keep game balance. If FS is as useless as it is made out to be (and I don't doubt that it is), then a greatly useful spell in its place will not set things "right".

What is wrong with removing the spell and not adding anything in its place at all? Its not like sorcs are in need of interesting and greatly useful spells... Though I admit, I'm more of a fan of diversifying player options than limiting them.

From what I've seen, though I could be wrong, a lot of sorcerors are short lived. They either burn out early or get involved in stuff and then burn out. It can be a frustrating class at times when people all want resizing/enchanting/scribing/etc all at once. The more sorcerors there are the less that happens. Like I said though, I could be wrong. It's just a minor observation.

I would rather see sorcerors get a minor spell in place of FS than something equally overpowered. People don't need fully customized suits of armor that will only cause them to bother sorcerors for more. People don't need rooms/areas that are 100% safe. They really aren't a lacking class in terms of spells. They have a great variety that makes them useful in many situations. If people insisted on something I would say give them brew on top of scribe with some restrictions. Transportation spells could be scribed, but not brewed. Detections could be used for both. Let them melt themselves while burning to death. I really don't think even something like that is needed though.

Love the idea of removing FS, just don't see a need to replace it.

Removing it is just the same as if you leave it there. No one uses it and no one will.

Sorc population is seasonal. At times they are growing on trees, other times they hard to come by, just like with any other class. If it is to be changed there will be a mass influx of wanna-be-sorcs but they will fizzle out quickly, and then the population will normalize again. Just like right now there are a decent influx of swashes/bards.

I think sorcs need a second master spell, period. Maybe not an unusable super-nuke, but something that adds to the mystery of the class.

Fepel, you are right about the influx, remember the Giant Barbarian influx?

*sings* Those were the days....

Wow, what's with the FS hate?

Now, feel free to disagree or to correct me, but here are two observations, having played a sorc for about a month now:

1) Sorcs are simply the best class in the game. They are certainly the most popular. If you were to add up all the hours of every single player on the mud, nearly 1 out of every 5 hours played in the mud are by one class: sorcs. They win, hands down. They do not need anything more.
2) A spell you'd only use once, probably even never, is better than a spell you didn't have...right?

Adding *anything* to sorcs is silly. There is no class that could use some nerfing as much as sorcs. I'd love to strip them of ethereal and polymorph, frankly, and hand those to some other class (shamans, maybe?).

Am I the only one that finds the idea of final strike really cool? The idea of the lone mage, in a final desparate move, eliminating all his enemies but at a great cost to himself? Man, that's a kernel for great rp there. Sure, only one out of ten sorcerers would ever use it. But it is there, a Hail Mary move, if one needs it. It's that terrible act that should only be used in the most urgent, move grave of situations.

I guess I simply don't understand why there is such bitterness to this spell. From sorcs, the most pampered, over-advantaged class, no less!

I've no beef with the spell. Was just tossing around ideas.

I trust Wert would make a better adjective than sexy... or at least I'd hope so...

I've never liked FS and I've never used it once in all the years I've played, but my disliking comes from seeing so many people abuse it. As I said before, I don't think sorcerors need anything else. They can already do a lot of stuff that other classes simply can't. They're useful to know for help with a variety of tasks, they can be somewhat fun to level because they have so many ways to do it, they get RP out of people who need their help, etc. If people continue to find loopholes in the coding that allow them to abuse FS then by all means, remove it. They really just don't need anything else though.
