This is a gentle reminder to all characters that you should ALWAYS give your name when asking a priest for a resurrection. If they don't have spirit sight up, the won't know who sent the tell. And if they're popular, then they'll have someone else send a tell so that they can't respond. This happened to me twice tonight. So if you're wondering why that priest never answers...

This is Benzo's cryptic way of reminding us that he's popular. Yeah, we can all read between the lines.

Yes, properly greeting a priest and asking politely is a must. Also, you should be prepared to answer with your race/alignment in an IC manner, as some priests only return those that their character chooses.

And try to be polite when a priest or priestess tells you to wait. They can't just spit out resurrections, and often times they have lives as well.

And finally, the WORST thing you can do is ask TWO priests for life, have one return you, and not tell the other. It is -annoying- to spend a quarter of one's ME to find, hey, they're already alive.

I am pretty proud that I have barely ever asked someone to wait in the entire existence of my priest, Gilgon.

Only about three times have I ever told people to wait. Two of those times were about insulting people for asking for resses before they even got to the river, and the last was the second I needed to log for ooc reasons.

I have gone through too many characters of repeated, constant 'pls wait' before getting a res, with [REDACTED] priests simply not being able to cast resurrect quickly. Acting as if you have 'lives' and cannot spit resurrect is ridiculous, but whatever. Do as you will. I played a GM who got no benefit from ressurecting people, but I would log in early in the morning just for courtesy to see if anyone needed a res. At one point in my characters life, I would check out the wholist and compare it to one without spirit sight up, and I would ask any of the apparently new players who were dead if they needed to be pulled away from the River.

Common courtesy, priests. Resurrect people and stop being tools. Because IMO - players aren't aggressively hunting down priests enough for taking too long to res them, and I think a new wave of angry players might have to change that.

Three things you should inform a priest in the first tell when looking for life.
One: You are dead.
Two: Your name.
Three: If you are in the river or not.

Suggestions:

For newbies - you're fine. Any confusion or dififculty a priest has in communicating with you is part of the massive shock to your soul from dying. Feel free to RP confusion, misdirection and extreme grief that your new body doesn't have the freshly painted nail-polish patterns your old one did. ;)

For priests - heaven forbid you actually have spirit sight up all the time. Skip the retorts on this one, please.

For Dulrik - What if ghosts had the following changse -
  • spoke in a language everyone understood, but not 'white' to avoid confusion with god-speak?
  • came as a 'Fred tells you' if they're anywhere in the realms, but comes as 'A soul from the river tells you' if they're in the afterlife area?

Bah, that is nothing. Try getting 5 people asking for rezzes, none of them giving their names, and then all of them getting mad at you because you don't know who the hell they are, and you can't respond because people keep bitching.

Quiet mode ftw!

Even if a priest leaves spirit sight up all of the time you can still have times when the person comes through as someone. If you are in a dark room, if they are manifested at night and you don't have infravision, if they are in a dark room, etc. If you know the race of your priest please keep in mind whether or not they will be able to detect you, spirit sight or not. Even a hint at who you are can help. "Hey, it's your favorite sprite, I got squashed flat." Something is better than nothing. With newbies it is understandable, with veterans it's just frustrating.

Also, if you are in a hurry, please avoid asking priests for a resurrection unless you know they won't ask questions. Too many times I received a tell saying something along the lines of "Can't we skip all this, I'm in a rush." and that is rather inexcusable given what you are asking for.

And if you ask tonth, be sure to have the request written in triplicate, a birth certificate guarenteeing you're a lighty and at least three witness to tell him that you're a lighty and make sure that on the instant you create, you immediatly go to the inn and greet at least 20923402309 people so that someone you know will be online to manifest to so that you can then proceed to manifest to them and find tonth so he can ignore everything else and make darn sure you're a lighty before he rez's you.

Gilgon for the win.

Personnally I Think to many priest give to many resses for to little....
Priest should not be ress machines....Only people within thiere own religion should be ressed and people in thiere cabal/tribunal should not get free ress kthnx....

I hear (not often) that religions dont have the influence they used to. I blame it on the priest... They give thiere BEST spell to easily and so people dont see a reason to follow them.... If all the priest would only ress thiere own followers and then maybe not ress the followers who went agianst the following then maybe you will see religions gain influance and priest become more influential in a strictly RP manner.

Pantiest still have a chance to get life with breath of life or from raise dead from shamons... They loose more XP and whatever but hey. Its part of the problem with not following a god and getting thiere help...

*** for the record I have made a priest and am having trouble leveling but believe me I will not be ressing to many people When I can***

I am sure many people will not like this post, But hey IMO this is how it should be...
