Is the Summon spell fine as it is?
Poll ended at Wed Sep 28, 2005 1:29 pm
Sure, it's the best way to kill someone. Fun, too (for the one who does it). 18%  18%  [ 7 ]
It is OK, but wouldn't mind PK demanding and involving more than that. 38%  38%  [ 15 ]
No, it's not. "You deserve to die if you can get summoned" sounds like an excuse for people to use it whenever possible to me. 44%  44%  [ 17 ]

If you hang around close to someone who can summon and may want to kill you you're taking the risk, be more careful next time. By 'be more careful' I mean 'militantly paranoid'. If that doesn't solve your problem, get your will saves boosted a bit.

I really think that summon should be wimped and gate should be greater. I have never liked summoned kills. They are always overbalanced towards the summoner. With a gate kill that is different. I forgot who talked about making gate easier but I totally agree. Summon is just too powerful. I don't know how many times I have been summon killed. With a gate kill at least there is a chance for a very large conflict to happen. Which in my opinion is what SK is about. Large pvp combat. The few times I have been part of a huge pvp combat it was awesome. Even if I died. I think of summon kills like the ninja raids on Cabals.

Summon is the tool of talentless slack jaw mouht breathers who use the excuse that if you can be hit with it you should be and that "nothing is risk free" when what they are doing is risk free and if you made gate a whole lot easier it would make it as close to "not risk free" for both sides as is possible.

"If you are close enough to summon someone they can do it back" - Lame.k

So if you're close enough to summon my mercenary with your gank group, I can summon you back? <---checks his non-existant spell list...turns out no, I can't. Some of us don't need to run around with groups to successfully pk...some of you do however have to result to lameness to tackle a single guy, or maybe two.

"But you can pick off members of groups to weed them down." - some random weakling

You mean not engage in group vs group pk..wait wasn't that what D wanted sk to move towards?

"Theres too many of them, gasp!, our 3 people can't fight their 9!! I need to go have a cry at my own patheticness now!"
-People with no cojones who aren't allowed to pk with me.

So what? If they couldnt summon you, you could choose to walk away, and if they have to gate to you, then there are tons of places a single person can go to and let a group gate to them and make that group's life miserable and short and the odds more even. People used to gate kill a lot when I started playing and I learned quickly how to make that a nasty experience for them. Its so much more fun than dealing with summons, which consists of this.

You have been summoned
you have been bashed
-heres where i start spamming quaff recall or flee-
then you hope you live long enough that they miss a bash and you can recall or you die.

wtf kind of fun is that? For either side? If you find pleasure in summon kills you're the kind of person that masturbates to paint drying.

If you want someone dead bad enough, have the balls to take the risk of them being underwater, in a shop where a NPC attacks all non-humans, in the midst of an army of templars, ect. Be good enough to wipe out their defenses...in short, EARN YOUR GEAR AND YOUR REPUTATION AS A PK'ER YOU PANSY.

god I wish this was in general discussion, I'm having such a hard time not turning this post into napalm.

Ill use this post to restate an old idea I had which if anyone can come up with a good name for Id be happy to hear it.

Spell
Summon link
Basic idea, You Target people/groups and when someone is summoned all those linked are summoned as well.

Change to summon spell
Another option is when summon is cast auto summon is turned off for two ticks (as per pulse slow down). This would stop mass summons of groups, you could get one or two but not five or six.

For the most part I'm going to have to agree with Cannibal here. Those that outright resort to summon killing without having prior faced their enemy are just taking the easy way out. And let's face it, if you don't have the balls to face down groups you're never going to amount to being one of the greatest PKers in the game.

In my opinion, summon has only ever been used by those that only care about equipment in the first place. Whether it has been Mehlindi, Kayen or whatever hoarder in the past that has used it prolificly. The short answer is that they just can't be bothered to get what they want in a legitimate field so they have to resort to being cheap about it. It's the lazy man's tactic. Almost risk-free and almost certain guarantee of winning.

But in the future, if you're not willing to find them and engage them with your group and shove their face in the dirt and make them cry like little girls then save us all the waste of time that you're serving to us. And then delete your character and quit the game.

Gate kills have always been fun though.

No such thing as cheap.

The problem in this case is that summon has the ability to allow you to completely decimate someone provided you have a group and it will take all of one bash for this to happen. So it isn't "cheap", more like "broken".

Yeah, NXS, that's fine in games that winning means EVERYTHING and they have rules only looking towards that goal, like oh, what do you know CHESS! Or other table-tops, or fighting games. Or war (although, what do you know for a second time, even war can have some who follow internation rules and those who don't and commit even greater atrocities).

You know what the point is in chess or similar games? The rules are clear and set. There can be no differentiation between which ones to use and which ones not to. Each player should use all of them.

If you go ahead and punch someone while playing chess, than scatter three of his pieces, including his king, you can say that you won.

Or if I get a handgun and shoot you in the head, I win no matter what we play! 8)

RPGs use PK and mechanics and the system as a tool, not as their main focus or as the ends. They are the means.

You're taking the point out of context. The idea is that everything that is a part of the game and also legal to use in the game can and should be used in the game to win.

Which is kind of why Paladins are the worst class -- not because of their skillset, but more because of all the restrictions they have governing their every single move.

Still, we have seen many ignore them. Some of them even become famous for it, by being PK machines. Is that OK? *shrugs*
