Can you move from one kingdom to another? I picked "The Empire of the Bright Star" and I don't see any other players around.

Is there a command to see players in your local area (like where on some muds)?

Are there any chat channels like newbie?

Are there pk level ranges or can anyone pk anyone?

- Thanks

Yes, you can, I just don't remember how.... But if you just started your char it might be easier to delete and recreate in another place. Taslamar normally has the most people in it, the inns are sometime very crowded.

Not really but, If you stay in your newbie school and type Mentor someone might send you a tell (mental message) and agree to meet and help you. the WHO command shows you EVERYONE that is logged on, and thats as close as you'll get.

Not to my knowledge, but there is an IRC chat where a lot of us gather.

I would suggest reading the in-game helpfile: help immigration

It should answer your questions fairly well.

A simplistic way to describe most kingdoms:

Empire of the Bright Star- honorable evil (hellions and such)
Northern Wastes- diabolic evil (necromancers and such)
Ayamao- Honorable good (Has elf city, sprite and centaur villages)
Taslamar- Good mostly, with some neutrals (probably most people around)
Zhenshi- Good (Great shops)
Uxmal- Neutral and lawless (best training area, but not nicest population)

Those are very basic terms, I know there are exceptions, but that is a general guideline for the new player.

To address you last question, anyone can PK anyone.

Now there is auto newbie which keeps chracters above (initiate?) from attacking anyone below (initiate?). This as well can be turned off so that higher level characters can kill newbies, but it is generally from upon by the Pbase for good reason.

As for the who list it will only show those who you could see if you were in the room with them. Therefore there may be people online who are in dark rooms, if they are invisible, hidden, dead, etc. If you are unable to see those kinds of things through spells or infravision, then you won't see them on the who list.

I often thought there were times when there were very very few people online only to find out that there were 10+ people invis/hidden at times.

No, but your character is telepathic. Sending appropriate in-character tells to players is a great way to get the ball rolling. (If you have to have some out-of-character assistance, that's all right. Just make sure to start your tell off "tell <whoever> OOC: ...")

Using your country's help file, and looking at the titles in the who list, you should get a good idea of who's likely to be friendly to you. (That assumes your alignment is a reasonably good match to your country - which I strongly recommend for new players. Your country's help file should make that obvious enough.)

Why do we always send all the newbies to Taslamar?
