Not sure what slang Tolene used to get punished, so not going to comment on that. Whether it is what is considered 'modern' day or not, a lot of slang generally comes from words to describe something else already in the current language. The fact that English as we know it didn't exist in the dark ages/renaissance, should this really be that much of an issue? Is this really something that should be punished? As long as it isn't internet slang, and more traditional slang, I don't see the issue.

Code:
--  using modern colloquial conversation in the game world; this is
inappropriate for the sake of immersive play

Code:
say That's my hammer, not your hammer.

That sentence is a rules violation and worthy of a curse. Roleplay at your own risk, especially if particular imms have it out for you.

Wait does that mean when you beat some imperials as a hammer member you can say MC hammered?

This made me giggle.

Despite the implication that we penalized Tolene for some offhand mention of hammers, it was nothing of that sort. The matter had to do with using modern-day slang in an IC note posted for all to read. While characters may get away with some modernisms in casual conversation between a handful of others, it is expected that more public communications should be held to a higher standard. Still, if a modernism is reported for detracting from the game environment, it will be investigated by the staff.

Additionally, the use of vulgar language, while not against the rules in and of itself, is unimaginative. Certain four-letter words are particularly offensive and should be avoided lest other players become offended by them.

Code:
examine bong
A large globe of hollow glass is filled with water.  Inserted at an angle
is a stem that opens into a small bowl filled with herbs.  A wide neck
branches up from the resevoir to a mouthpiece designed specifically to allow
a minotaur's muzzle to smoke from it.  To operate it, one would need to
SPARK it.

A wide-mouthed minotaur water bong is made of glass and size large.

Life 100 Mana 100 Move  92
remove rapier
You stop using the m'greb's blade.

Life 100 Mana 100 Move  92
hold bong
This item is only usable by minotaurs.
You stop using a wide-mouthed minotaur water bong.

Usage of slang by someone else isn't an excuse to also use slang.

But I've fixed your complaint:

Quote:
bong (n.) - "water pipe for marijuana," 1960s, U.S. slang, said to have been introduced by Vietnam War veterans, said to be from Thai baung, literally "cylindrical wooden tube."

It's now a baung, directly using the Thai word, similar to how we have other asian items throughout the game.

If you find other anachronistic terms in the game, please do typo log them.

Meissa-

I agree that we should all avoid doing things that offend other players.

Warning: if you PK me, I will be offended.

Does this mean that the term 'feminazi' would also be inappropriate in our feel good family friendly game environment?

This is one of the few instances where I find myself agreeing with the immortals. There are plenty of ways to insult and mock other characters without dropping f-bombs, c-bombs and the like.
