This is a foolish conversation for all parties. There isn't anyone who has been around as long as Jardek (or Chem) who hasn't at least been brought up as a possible candidate at some point. But like it or not, I get the veto when it comes to applicants and I'll never approve any candidate with which I have trust issues.

Does this mean that Alshain has to resign now?

No, Dulrik's just being diplomatic in diffusing it. I consider the issue well and truly shoved off a cliff to be ignored, which is how I should have treated it in the first place.

---
Back on topic - the originally planned change and the input from this thread were discussed amongst the pantheon with the following agreed results:

1. Signatures are now always hidden for users who are not logged in.
2. The modification will make the signature panel in topics and PMs hidden by default
3. Users will be able to choose to display signatures (i.e. "opt-in" to show, or "opt-out" to hide, depending on which perspective you prefer)
4. Immortals as a whole will have their preference enabled so as to confirm that signatures still conform to the forum rules
5. A limit on the number of line breaks in a signature panel will be added (two max)
6. No change in signature length has been decided on at this stage.

Thank you for your patience during the brief hiccup while item #1 was implemented. You'll notice the user profile option and lack of signatures over the next day or two - change your preference as you wish. Item #5 is a bit further down in the queue.

Ha! I seriously doubt my name was ever brought up. And probably for good reason heh.

poop, I liked no seeing them at all, now I have to go and manually do it.

Edit: Umm how do you turn off seeing other peoples signatures?

Change is complete -
Code:
Display user signatures:  ( ) Yes  ( ) No

...except for the limit on line breaks, which is next in line.

edit: scratch that - turned out to be an easy change, and now the line break change is done too. Signature will be replaced with '(line count exceeded)' if you have more than two lines. This is not retrospective though, so those who have longer signatures won't change until they next edit their profile.

I believe there was a statement about money and mouths that you should have heeded to avoid having to make this face-losing back peddle:

So you make a statement, to the effect that you will go the hell away if Jardek was ever considered as a serious candidate, Dulrik says it's basically impossible that he WASN'T seriously considered at least once, and you go throwing yourself madly back at the straws you left on the edge of the cliff you'd thrown yourself over. GJ there. Remind me never to loan you money. Clearly your word is worth d**k and all.

Being brought up as a candidate is not equal to them being seriously considered as a candidate. And yes, I'm sure Chem's name has been brought up by someone at least once over the years.

Alshain shoves his foot in his mouth and Dulrik feebly comes to his rescue. This is a great thread.

Harsh.

There's not a player around, imm or mort, who hasn't had some dipsh!t moments.

Like him or not, Al's contributed a lot to the game.
So have a lot of his critics.

Let it go.

Yep. Cheery-bye, Alshain. I'll enjoy crushing you now that you're a player again (not that I am naive enough to believe for one second that you will follow through on your word).

In all honesty, all this conversation should be split off and removed. I am a little embarrassed for Alshain right now and I can only imagine that his personal devastation will end up badly for me in terms of sanctions.
