Ah where to start. Sinderin was a concept I came up with when I got bored of Syrina, my bard. Where Syrina was a pacifist (for the most part) I wanted a character to make some conflict with and PK with, so I decided to try a lock.

Basically the idea behind Sin was a warlock who couldn't control his own abilities and would be a danger to not only himself (random chain lightnings or fireballs) but everyone else around him. He was raised in Chzzr'ym (think I spelt that right?) in one of the houses before he accidentally burned the matron and was cast out into the surface and sold to the slavers of the Teron Arena. From there he pretty much went on killing people and turning them to ash, gaining more power which only made it harder for him to control.

Several things turned me off to this character sadly. For one, at the time getting into Yed was nigh impossible. It took ages to do so and it was done without any RP whatsoever. Literally, I woke up and logged on and another Yed follower sent me a tell calling my character "brother" and I started to say that Yed never accepted him until I checked my attribute page and lo and behold, neenja induct while I was offline or so.

Secondly was the fact the druids denied him. Basically him and the druid leader who will remain anonymous didn't see eye to eye. This was before the help file was changed to say droobies want balance in all things. Sinderin only saw one "true" balance and that was the elemental balance. His primary goal was to restore balance to that by killing all the "parasites" or pretty much everyone. He was certifiably insane and diabolic. After I was rejected, I was going to wage war and just kill them, but I sort of lost sight of that. And ultimately grew bored with the character on what to do next.

The third thing came as a shock to me when I was testing some spells with Jorinthia. She had a super suit and was GM Gnome I believe. I was mentor 4 at the time or maybe 5. The damage done to her was laughable at best, even from my strongest spells. Not a single one got even 10% damage to her with 4 art on him. I know that's not a lot, but still, I'd assume a profession that the helpfile boasts as being one of the most destructive classes able to pull off at least a 15% hp dmg spell on a low hp caster. That's when it became obvious to me that playing a lock without a tribunal or cabal is simply unplayable. Not saying everyone can make suits like that but still, it was disheartening and shocking.

That's about it. I may make another warlock sometime, I don't know. Their spellset is really neat, just needs a few additions imo.

If you deleted because your mentor lock didn't hurt a GM enough, and one in a "super suit," as you called it, then you were unbelievably off base.

Wow. It isn't like GMing a lock is that hard, they can solo it pretty easily without much risk.

Extremely off base. Recall Xaaln? He didn't even need the druid abilities to get the job done. Many jobs () in rapid succession.

Sinderin was not special. I didn't see any great roleplay from him. Warlocks are an extremely fun class with a very rich history and utility. Not hard to befriend almost anyone.

First of all, thank you for sharing Sinderin with us.

Second, I don't know why I'm defending the druids but I will say that I think you were given the chance to give your would-be leader exactly what s/he wanted to hear in order to get what you wanted.

Third, one of my characters was Jorinthia's corrupt little buddy, and I can tell you for a fact that her suit was not super. It was legendary. It was the kind of suit you would reincarnate to try to get back if you died. We made that suit using every possible resource in the game to accelerate and influence the enchanting process. Babies may have been sacrificed. Also you admit yourself she had huge xp advantages over you.

Face the facts: you deleted because Sinderin wasn't fun, and more importantly, you seem to be suggesting that this is because the character did not meet expectations you held for him that depended on outcomes in mechanics and in the choices of others. Your character was set to be externally validated, and it did not come to pass.

Perhaps it would be fruitful to create as few expectations as possible on your next, and to not obligate others to interact with him or her in a certain way by virtue of the hopes you have for your character; I had the most fun on the character that I was determined to just go with the flow on.

I'll look forward to seeing your next concept.

VelvetWinter, you're pointing to a druid lock played by arguably the best pvper in the game, who had an entire crew roll with him and had access to every nice wand/stave in the game. He also almost exclusively pked against newbs. You have not exactly laid out a strong argument saying that warlocks are fine as they are.

That being said, you should really GM a character before complaining about how little damage your spells are doing.

yeah

when xaaln rocked in pvp I mostly saw him using skills any sorcerer already had and a cabal ability

nothing about it had anything to do with being a warlock in the couple of sorties I witnessed

Baldric - I know. The point I was making was that warlocks are not as wimpy as Kin claims and that Xaaln is an example of how to play a warlock. Kin claims that his spells do no damage, precisely why the other skills need to be incorporated into the mix.
