Nothing bolsters recruitment and retention quite like a dismally disenfranchised avant-guard.
The incoming Great Roleplayers everyone seems to be missing probably read Afterlife threads like this and decide to take their chances elsewhere with, who knows, a GURPS or BESM D20 group. Either would probably have less Golden Age QQ.
Like Dulrik said elsewhere, though, I'm almost positive the standards of the experienced playerbase are higher than they used to be. Call it Elitism, but I don't like giving the word Elite a bad connotation. There's an interesting aticle

Whether its not liking how CRS engages a character or low player counts for a character to experience or a player "having a life" outside of the game, one should not ignore when the only common denominator in all the list of complaints about the mud is oneself. Playtime shouldn't be a vehicle of entitlement to disapprove of current situations: there are no tenure-track characters, unless I missed an important helpfile. We choose to enjoy the game or not, and only a masochist would play a game they do not enjoy.

Its a shame I won't get to interact with your characters, sir, and you did not earn most of what I said.
Alas, all good things must come to an end.
