[PAR Pri] [None] Yotbol, Shadow of Deceit, Archbishop of Betrayal
Yotbol was probably my best char so far, better than Golg. His story is too big to write down everything, so I'll stick to the important events that I remember.
Born in Craeftilin, he had nightmares and visions since he was a little boy. One night he woke up and murdered his parents, then left Craeftilin. He was wandering here and there, until he ended up at the gates of Krychire almost dead. The guards got him and he ended up a slave in Krychire's tower. Inside there he begun fighting the other slaves, until he got the attention of the guards who decided to let him go.
As he was slowly growing stronger, he started to seek a reason to exist. He learned to read and write, visited the library of Krychire and the temples, speaking about the Gods. The stories of Thuban, although few and different every time, caught his attention. He decided to devote himself to it, but couldn't find any followers around(at my timezone - there was Kemilla also). He was lvl 30(or a bit more) when he got in the religion(in a short imm RP - 2-3 room echos and it's done due to lack of time). Since that day he started looking for places of worship for his god, when he got to learn the awesome religion spell(2nd best utility wise imo). He didn't reveal his true identity though. Judging from the others in the realms, he decided to pretend to be a priest of Yed. Under his disguise, he was able to infiltrate groups of lighties, where he was considered as a friend. It was around this time that he met his first mentor, Gork, druid priest of Nashira. Having these friendly relationships as a powerful weapon, Yotbol decided to gain more power. He approached Aliquada in Krychire and practically demanded to become one of the Council of Necromancers. He presented to her his powers given by Thuban and told her of how valuable he could prove in the future if she decided to accept him. He got a quick induct in the CoN also this way(I am 99% certain I didn't get to give the blood oath gremlin because the whole ritual didn't happen).
Into the CoN now, there were direct orders from Aliquada to others to keep his identity a secret, even attack him if needed to deceive others further. Fortunately this wasn't needed, since I avoided PK totally then, trying to RP the ultimate principled character that respects life of all creatures made by the elements(principled Yed priest you see). And I was helping everyone actually. From the leaders of the Fist and the Keepers to the leaders of the MC. Only group I kept interactions with to a minimum were the CoN. They didn't need me anyway, since the golden CoN era has begun around that time with Benjamin, Orland, Feanor, Cerrilius, Gnar, Sephini, Aneira etc etc being the most formidable group of the game at that time in all aspects. So I kept myself close to our enemies, staying out of the PK of course but learning valueable information that I was passing along to the CoN. Around that time Yotbol was invited in the Druids 2 times, one by each leader. He kindly declined and when they asked him why he replied he wasn't ready yet(OOCly as far as they were concerned Yotbol was a secondary char). So the happy life kept going on and on.
But such secrets are hard to keep, especially when others go for longshots(based on knowledge from other chars). Alleli openly accussed him for being a Thuban priest, but couldn't prove anything(unlike ardith's alt at that time Kalysta). Anyway, since things were getting tough around Yotbol, he had to make one big betrayal before making himself known, to please his Lord. And the opportunity came with Navelic. Benjamin and Orland have died to him and he had their loot(it was shortly after a citadel run also so it was pretty sick lewt). As the CoN was trying to find Navelic and kill him, I get a tell from him to identify some stuff for him. Finding excuses for being on an island that I couldn't leave at that time, I buy time for the CoN to organize. Then as Navelic expected a gate from Yotbol to go and meet him, Hotepsunum opens one to halgeir, Navelic steps into the trap and eventually dies. With Navelic dead Keeper HQs are raided also and all the loot is recovered. Yotbol's true identity is now revealed to all, so he claims his place among the CoN. All that Yotbol requested from Navelic's kill was the corpse, for a sacrifice to Thuban(the first he performed).
Time passes by when the CoN rules all the kingdoms. Strange alliances(like the one between MC and lighties) appear, to fight the united force of CoN mainly and Harlies(lack of Adepts meant we needed someone to begin CRS). In most PKs CoN is victorious, and Yotbol continues to request nothing but the flesh of the enemies. Kemilla has dissapeared(:?) so the faith is left without a leader. After a grand ritual that involved sacrifices of 9 significant lighties of the time(and 1 darkie I think, Eilek) that Yotbol performed with the help of Amrbi, he becomes the HF of Thuban.
The next important event comes some time after that, when the CoN has plans of undermining the power of the seven of the high council and cleansing the north from all the remains of the past, to build a better future. The seven are deceived and they agree to help the CoN. The ultimate goal was to destroy the Adept spire, because many wanted to recreate the dark magic of the blood cult. With the help of the seven the passage to the Abyssal Tower opens again, and the sacrificial blade of destruction is recovered after many decades that it remained locked there. After the recovery of the blade that has moved Krychire in the first place a ritual takes place, to the remains of the old tower. With the black crystal and the sacrificial blade a poisonous fog spreads throughout the village. These events draw the attention of everyone in the realms, as expected. Even Achernar himself appears to witness all the death that is spread in Krychire. The outsiders gathered outside of Krychire are trying to figure out what happened. Benjamin decides they are not still distracted enough and they might figure out the plans about the Adept spire, so the CoN attacks those gathered, even Achernar himself. A handful die and then CoN retreats, knowing the others think we are after Krychire that they are guarding. Teaming up with Ilyash and Jurithiel, CoN approaches the spire of the Adepts. Two daemons from the netherworld greet the group as it enters and offer their help to destroy the spire, should they are given the cloak of everlasting darkness. CoN goes up the spire, retrieves the cloak(along with some other artifacts like the sacrificial blades) and returns it to the daemons. The daemons tell CoN the spire will now be destroyed easily and leave with the cloak, Ilyash and Jurithiel(the beginning of a new cabal - but Arafiel and Lolth can tell this story better than me). Once outside, the spire is destroyed, the Adepts gone and the sacrificial blade of destruction still lies buried deep below the ruins. Everything goes according to plan, and the Black Hand is now reality, burying the memories of the past Council of Necromancers. New roles are given to the CoN members, and Yotbol becomes one of the Black Caste, answering only to Cerrilius(being the Ilkhan) and the 2 leaders.
More time passes and one day Aneira and Benjamin meet with Yotbol on the hill of rituals, where the ceremonies of the Black Hand take place. As they speak, they suddenly uninduct Yotbol, forcing him to bow down before them. Benjamin brings forth his blade for Yotbol to take a blood oath with it. They expect Yotbol to do the ritual again, but Yotbol never did it before. Anyway, the ritual is done and Yotbol is the new Ilkahn of Blood for the Black Hand, the one that watches all and supports the tribunal.
Things in SK never remain static, so slowly the Black Hand starts to lose his power as his members start dying(aka deleting). Times are harder, but things in the north remain calm strangely. It is around this time that Yotbol decides to perform the ultimate deception, by preaching the ways of Thuban to the worshippers of Dulrik himself. He met a young squire of Dulrik, Upelleru, who he tried to take to the dark side. He almost convinces the paladin to join him in their first meeting, which gives him hope that in the future he might actually succeed in that. He has long discussions with Upelleru about the spheres of Thuban, Dulrik and the life of mortals according to them. He even tries to lure him to the dark side by presenting him gifts(like a Dulrik symbol that Upelleru lacked), but not revealing where he found them(Yuni was killed for Yotbol to get his hands to the symbol - Upelleru found out about this much later). Unfortunately Upelleru strangely dissapeared, so Yotbol had to turn his focus to another member of the church of Dulrik.
With the last few members of the Black Hand from the glorious days gone, Yotbol decides he has nothing more to offer to the north. He withdraws himself from his position and turns into the shadows, trying to find there more things about his Lord. In one of his last plots, he lured the high priest of Dulrik Drasaij to meet him, where he acted as if he wanted redemption for his sins and when Drasaij lowered his guard he attacked him with everything he had(including the 3xFoD scroll). Unfortunately in the end of the battle he died, but still his purpose was fullfilled - deceiving the high priest of truth. He remained Its archbishop until the end of his life(except from a few days when the flag was removed without any reason or explanation from some immortal only to be returned shortly afterwards), although he wasn't seen much, especially nearly the end.
Overall Yotbol was pretty fun. Some of my most enjoyable RP moments happened with this char, especially early in his life when he had a secret identity. Mechanics wise now, gnomes aren't great priests in PvP. A halfling or even a delf now with the new improved stats makes a better priest, even with lower mana pool. Which mana pool was useful at times in the past though, when I had to spam use locate object and get this cheat spell finally wimped. Having a huge mana pool and certain mana regen items, I could practically spam non stop "c locate" knowing anything that was going on in the game, without resting for like 5-6 mins(when with a well timed sleep at the tick I regened all my mana again). Which proved to be a huge PvP weapon. Yotbol was the GPS tracking down the enemies, and the rest of CoN were the hunters following his directions. I've also performed any possible PK way I could think for a priest(direct spells, scrolls/staves, deception RP, even using the awesome portal rings to get myself next to enemies and suddenly a group of CoN appearing out of nowhere and ganking them). It was a blast playing him for that last one and a half year.
