PVP trumps RP.

This is news?

Grep, your comment perfectly illustrates what I believe is the biggest problem between what you want SK to be versus what it actively aims to be doing. Sort of like real life, SK is not ONLY words, it has its own laws of nature, physics, magic and even politics (all represented by game mechanics). Words alone usually won't overcome them. You have to work the system and make use of resources or else all you are is talk.

In an example somewhat related to this thread, I will cite Kim Jon Un, the dictator of North Korea. People fear him and he rules the country. But does he rule the country because people fear him personally? No, he rules it because he controls a network of people that collectively have the power to put people in body bags if they disagree with him. Or in other words, he has the PKers on his side.

+1.

Any one rules because he says, "This is mine," and he is believed.

I'd love to go back-and-forth about it, it'd be fun and interesting, but I don't think this is exactly the right thread for a deep conversation.

Instead, I'll just say that while I admit that disregarding a color on the palate is probably short-sighted, it might also be a little uninspiring to be told you must paint by numbers to have a "complete" character.

My position is actually a middle-of-the-road where PVP enriches your playstyle if you choose to go into it with a level head and an open mind. I just dislike how those caveats get ignored by people who advocate it.

OA: I think we're saying the same thing, but you just want to be correct. I think that's acceptable, so I won't disagree with you. Transitively, it's good for me, too.

That's not true. Any government that cannot back up their claim to rule is overthrown by another faction. Those claims are backed up through police and military forces.

Ignoring the bravado - I can't speak to your character's actual accomplishments or lack thereof, glad you're having fun at least - I can say that it is my experience with Conner that you have done almost exclusively PvP with your rogue. It just hasn't been direct PK.

Well now you're making me blush. But I guess I can agree with you, and as for accomplishments, I will hold off till I retire Conner, which won't be soon.

Still won't forget the jar of sprites Eberhardt kept pulling out whenever Syrsani needed motivation for a task. I found Eberhardt delightfully creepy and bad tempered, but also loyal to those who repaid him in kind. Just for the record, I did enjoy our IC rapport. Syrs saw you as a leader not because of any PKilling you might have attempted (or not), but because you saw to recruits, helped with training and coin, and lightened bad moments in the Empire with crass jokes and grizzled demeanours. You should have been the elder statesman/trainer who was respected in retirement, but people kept pinning things on you even though you hadn't lead in a while, and demanded you proved yourself with PK. Not very good treatment for a retired knight, even if that knight was not very eager to swing a sword at times. I know that Eberhardt (and myself) ended up in leadership largely because there was no one else and someone needed to lead in order to induct and take care of the coffers. As a result we weren't the PK-happy leaders that the Empire deserved, and we got rolled a LOT. But you know we (and Arkex) had fun hanging on to our sanity by our fingernails, lol.

Even so, it's sad to see Eberhardt getting such a lack of respect here despite spending a lot of time in the stockade with recruits. Wish that counted for more in a cabal leader's reputation, guess it doesn't. Bah.

And those are the days that I like to remember. Personally greeting every newb who came through Kytar, if I was on when they first rolled. Handling most of the diplomacy of the Empire during my early days, with the blessing of the Knightlord and Chancellor. Rising to become the Legate, and then to be a Knightlord Leading my "Army of Three" against some ridiculous odds (it was no wonder we were losing) and refusing to accept multiple offers to just surrender and get it over with (honestly, what kind of fool offers terms that make things worse for the loser than they already were?! it totally defeats the purpose of surrendering, t's supposed to hurt, it isn't supposed to ensure that the fighting continues LONGER) it was stuff like that that tended to define Eberhardt. I have never been good at PK. Probably never will. If that's the only thing anyone respects, then they are actually too shallow for me to deal with. As far as CRS goes, for most of us at that time the relic was just a non-issue. This is for reasons that I cannot give on this board, because it would give away to much IC info.
Yeah, I got kicked out. I saw no reason to be obedient to someone who waltzed in when the hard parts were basically over, and acted as though she were some messianic leader, here to guide us all through the darkness.
To be honest, the more I think about it, the more I'm glad I just retired this guy. My new character is already coming along nicely.

Do you remember when we recieved Ghavorian's awful terms for our surrender. We met up at Losache, sat down, pulled out Firebreathers and got thoroughly drunk. Good times. I think when Eberhardt was hammered he ran it past us that he'd agree to the Hammer purging the Empire of all evil if they did it while wearing the pink maid outfits from the abandoned mines? Or were you the one who said you'd let them kill you if you were guaranteed to always have a free pony upon resurrection?

Those times, man...those times...

As I recall, I wanted free Taslamarian Noble Titles for everyone in realms, and 50% ownership of the Hart and Rose Inn.
Arkex was to receive his very own pirate ship to be crewed by singing Halfling comedians.
You were to receive a perfectly round orange, sliced evenly on all sides, and it was to be splattered in Aodhs face, by that one Griffon barb we all hated.
And that sprite that joined the Legions, and had a ban against sleeping was to get a personal coffee bean farm.
Those were my terms. :D
