That's the ironic thing, I don't. The only thing I -might- have had that was really cool was the psi rod, which I had for a total of three hours.

I'm really not trying to harp on you, Jenn. You're a sweet gal. But if you didn't have any loot, why are you upset about dying? Getting life is so easy, and if you weren't wearing anything important, it's not like you'll be spending the next week regearing yourself. If it's true that you were wearing the water essence stuff, I recommend that you just pick up some store bought cloth and enchant it (or some dropped of a NPC). I made it a point to never wear anything more than run-of-the-mill scale on Aneira (though I did have trinkets and jewelry that people would want at times) and I don't believe I was ever PK'd for my stuff. And Enishi is right. There's no shame in fleeing if you're not looking for a flight. That's what WoR vials were made for.

As for the quiet mode after the PK, yeah that really sucks. But that doesn't mean you can't RP about it anyway. Like Liri said, one death can really affect your character. I know when Valeria killed me it really made Aneira depressed for like a year in game. It was pretty funny to play around with it. And just because the person had quiet mode on just then doesn't mean that you won't catch them with it not on later on down the road.

Basically, I'd hate to see you get disillusioned with the game just because you got PK'd and looted. Buck up and roll with the punches. :(

And, Jennbo. So..the RP was fine, until you got killed, right?

This isn't an RP-only, or PK-only mud.

Nobody likes dying, that's totally understandable, but it is part of the game. (Myself included, though I tend to get pissed more at the fact that everybody sucks at the PK and need 5 people to kill 1.)

My sorc I just played wore a whole kit of storebought stuff all the time, except for usually, robe/2 rings/1 necklace. Some of the stuff is actually really nifty looking. (Wizard hats that are sold in a certain city.)

~~~~~~
Equipment is really the difference between, "Oh, I don't like XXX." and "XXX NEEDS TO DIE!!!111!111!!!!!!". It's just the way the game is, sadly.
Well, it can certainly be a factor. But case-by-case regarding players and circumstance is how large of a factor it is... or maybe I'm just being optimistic ;P
Equipment is a part of it (you're less likely to be actively hunted), but most people who know you associate with their enemies will kill you on sight if they randomly come across you.
I actually had members of nearly every cabal and tribunal watching my back but it was a very long time before I found out. I'm not entirely sure my char found out. It's been a while. But RP can cause certain unusual circumstances to occur where all the power protects you while you have no real power.
And, yeah, I rage-deleted that char due to RP-free PK/loot.
The majority of my "loot" was given to me, and was only worn because it "matched" - anyone who has RPed with this character knows this. If what I was wearing was somehow considered cool, I didn't know it until this point. That's how un-twinkish I am.
And I'm going to say again - this person wasn't my mortal enemy, our factions were not at war, and I'd never even seen him before. If he was doing "OMGCRAZYNECRO" thing, fine, but he wasn't - he was specifically hunting me, and I'd never seen him before and I don't even know how he knew who I was. Not from my other enemies, because I don't really HAVE any other enemies.
And again, it's not so much that I died and lost everything, that happens to lots of people and has happened to me before this instance (but those people actually had a conversation with me and explained why and blahblahblah) it's the fact that there was no RP whatsoever, and that apparently, this sort of thing happens all the time and not just to little old me just this once. There's a problem, and it ties into the beginning of the thread.
RP may not be dead, but during PK, oh heck yeah. I do agree with Ezeant that curses should kind of be given more liberally. People do sketchy things all the time (and this isn't just because of my situation, I would say my situation probably wasn't curseable, just really bad RP) and no one cares about it.
I'm just really not sure that people in real life would kill each other because one was wearing nice clothes. It's like seeing an acquaintance of someone you don't like and had heard of, but haven't ever really seen before, and wanting their necklace, and deciding "I AM GOING TO KILL THEM!""
And I know like this whole thread seems like a whine thread from me, but I'm really just trying to defend myself against the arguments here and agree with the original post that yes, RP is dead, I know because it happened to me. IC, my character is back on track and happy as can be. I didn't rage delete or anything, nor would I. SK isn't omgruinedforever because of one loot kill. Thanks for the advice, though.
Jennbo, considering one time you were killed, your faction's leader came and cried a river for your EQ back, explaining "ZOMG SHE'S IN MY GROUP!!!!11!! GIVE IT BACK!!!!!" in front of like 7 PCs(One of which was mine, who told a lot of people). I'm not sure how you are under the mistaken impression that your character's affiliations are secret.
And yes...When you help the Peacekeepers in fights against people, you end up with enemies. That's usually what happens when you PK, you get enemies.
~~~~~~

RP in PK is dead, because you'd be an idiot to give them a chance to run away, because you probably won't get another chance. Very rarely will someone sit and RP with you, while waiting for you to kill them. And as soon as you do kill someone, 95% of the time, the first command they enter after dying is "cb ZOMG XXX JUST KILLED ME IN YYY, I'LL TRY AND TALK TO HIM, COME KILL HIM!!!!"

RP in PK is dead, because of the same reason fountain RP is pretty dead. People are afraid to get ZOMG ganked.

I actually really miss stuff like RPing with Destrivai before he killed me. As far as I am aware, stuff like that no longer happens.

It's like you can't even have a peaceful character whatsoever.
You can, but people are likely going to start telling you to 'grow a pair and kill somebody'

I've tried playing a peaceful char as I thought would be a good idea to do so. It doesn't seem to have worked well in the minds of a lot of people, but most of those people seem to be those who would go PK for loot anyway so...

My suggestion, if you want to play a peaceful character, make a greybie priest of a deity that has no open enemies and be nice to everyone. Also, carry no loot of worth.

Just because someone gave it to you, doesn't mean it isn't valuable. Turn down presents if you don't want the risk that comes along with them. Loot's basic purpose in SK is for PK (you don't need anything fancy for PVE), and PK is necessary to spread the loot around. You also can't compare death in SK to death in the real world. They aren't anything alike. Real death is permanent. Death in SK is more like a good beating; it's painful, but you'll recover. Putting aside the fact that people do kill people for a nice watch or iPod, would someone mug another person, beating them senseless and stripping them naked? Hell yeah.

I don't think a person can declare RP dead because of the acts of a few (or even the majority, if there is a few who still RP, then it isn't dead.. it's dying :P). I would agree that interaction between enemies during PK is highly unlikely though, which I find regrettable. But just because you don't see the RP right away doesn't mean that there isn't any.
