Should these two spells work together, considering that shield basically nullifies the penalty of frenzy?

Huh?

Are you saying that shield + frenzy gives the same total bonus to magical protection as just shield? Because it should not be that way.

It should be: Shield gives 30 MP. Frenzy subtracts 30 MP. Therefore having both means your MP remains the same, having just shield means you gain 30 MP. If this is the way it works now, I don't see a problem. If Shield actually overrides the penalty to frenzy and just gives a bonus, then that's a bug.

...No. I am saying that you essentially have a net gain/loss of 0. (Who knows, you might actually gain or lose a couple points.)

But, you still get the bonuses from having frenzy.

I don't see a problem. Shield or not, you still take more spell damage from utilizing frenzy than if you hadn't.

The point of frenzy is to increase melee damage but make you take more magical damage. When you're effectively increasing your damage output and negating the effect it's supposed to have on you, while it's clever, I just think there shouldn't be such possibilities. Mercs as it is, and barbs in some cases, can get up to 5-6 melee hits per round. Massive weapons are now actually really scary and can deal damage enough that mercs / barbs can chew through a charmee / pet in a couple of rounds and the magical damage has 0 effect on them because of enchants, buffs and heal vials. Frenzy is a huge buff to melee damage in itself..The penalty shouldn't be something so easy to overcome as just putting on a shield buff.

It isn't as easy to overcome by just putting on a shield buff. It takes enchantments too. A melee character with frenzy and shield and crappy enchants will get murdered by chain lightning. Chain lightning is a spell that you use against people who have crappy enchants or are weak to lightning: It is a bunch of small strikes which have their own damage calculation. Just because someone has frenzy or is berserked doesn't mean that they should take insane damage from all spells, it just means that spells hurt them -more.- Using a spell which only works well on people with low magical protection and then complaining that it didn't do much damage to someone with high magical protection is silly.

I think it's fine the way it is.

I am with Edoras on this. Fury gives a penalty and shield gives a bonus. They pretty much cancel each other out. I don't see a problem with this. The guy with fury has less mp than he would have otherwise, meaning he has made a sacrifice to get the +damage.
