Based mostly on Finney's post in the other thread:

Quote:
I completely agree that a good-aligned character should not murder other good-aligned characters. However, my evaluation and judgement of a character's alignment is not solely based on what is listed on the attribute/score sheet, but also on RP and gameplay. If your attribute/score sheet shows scrupulous or principled, but you roleplay like a selfish or evil jerk - you get what you get.

I completely agree with this sentiment. I think there are two distinct factors to playing an alignment based roleplaying game:
1) the alignment you as the owner of a character choose for your character
2) the way characters actually act in game

As the owner of a good-aligned character, you should probably be relatively intolerant of characters who act evil and tolerant of everyone else. As the owner of a neutral character, you have a lot of leeway to not give an eff. As the owner of an evil character, you should probably be relatively intolerant of those who act zealously "good" and have a lot of leeway towards others. See how all of that relates to -actions- and not auras?

I think auras should be a hidden stat after being chosen, visible only to imms to help them understand the char's motivations and reward good RP / punish bad RP. Leave 'em in the attributes line so they can be debated and enjoyed after death.

Not so long as there are spells in the game that affect only certain juxtaposed auras.

While I entirely agree with you, Pat, none of this will ever happen. Simply put, there'd be too many instances of lighties trying to kill other lighties simply because they wouldn't be able to tell the difference right off hand.

I personally agree. People should be judged on actions and not auras. Hell, I've had characters, darkies that have been attacked based on Aura alone. It'd make things a lot more interesting, that's for sure.

No, my paladin should know who they are striking.

No because we have enough special snowflake characters as it is and this would only encourage them. Otherwise, I agree with your sentiments.

Don't disagree with this at all, but I wasn't going to write an in depth analysis of everything that would have to change to support it, Just floating the idea.

Exactly. I don't consider knowing their aura being justifiable means of you knowing them enough to strike. Where is the Rp?

It is nice knowing what to expect out of someone, when you are calling down prayers on someone, and just who is around you generally.

I don't think I have used it as an excuse to strike yet.

Edit:

Knowing someone is evil and what kind of evil gives you insight into their future actions. Telling other people who may or may not have this information prepares them in dealing with them.
