After spending days and weeks in training my spells and skills,
I came to a conclusion that there is a cap,
on how much you may advance on a skill or spell,
in a fixed amount of time.

Is that like a category per day?

With observation I found out that it is really common to train a whole day on a skill,
only to get a category upgrade, in the first 5 minutes of the next day I am logging in.
There might be a chance that this happens only from superb to mastered.

Your knowledge, experience?

Yes, there is a cap per day on spell experience. I'm not sure exactly what that cap is, but its existence has been confirmed by Dulrik.

This is probably just your perception. Getting a skill from superb to mastered takes -much- longer than any other category of proficiency, both in the rate of improvement and in the total number of improves required. I don't know if I have ever noticed skills having a cap on their improvements per day: In fact on most all my casters I master wands before I leave the training grounds, and while it does take forever, I can usually do it in one day.

Yes, there are quite a few ticks between superb and mastered. I'd give you the number if I wouldn't get my hand slapped. Not hard to figure out, though. :)

There's no limitation on how many times you can get an improve on a skill/spell like you are suggesting.

If you are a light armor or cloth wearing class, try wearing heavy armor to speed up mastery of spells. Make sure your intelligence is at maximum. Intelligence can even be improved beyond your racial maximum with the help of the polymorph spell.

Oh, snap. I totally misunderstood the question.

You can master the spell or skill in a day, but you -will- stop gaining experience for it at a certain point. viewtopic.php?f=22&t=18507&hilit=experience

Previous posters have it right. It's also true that certain skills are much easier to skillup (specalize, blind fighting, finesse) than others. It is not transparently clear whether this is due to them checking a gajillion times per combat round on all sorts of factors, or whether they are just "easier" to skill up, but seems likely to be the former. It's my suspicion that all skills, assuming they're at the same level of proficiency, are equally likely per 1 skill check to skillup. Obviously that means that something like Resurrection will as a general rule take many days to master while weapon skills can be done in a few hours. Seems to me it's all about finding ways to spam skill checks.

No, I think D has it set where some skills are harder to learn than others on a per check basis.

You are right, however, that it's a lot easier to get a high volume of "checks" on certain skills than it is with others.

Each skill/spell has a certain chance of getting a tick to become better. Intelligence, increases that chance. I still find it funny with swashbucklers telling me that they will get finesse to mastered quicker than dual wielding.
