Post subject:  Giant Strength

I'm toying around with a sorcerer. I cast Giant Strength on myself at initiate level and it lasts about 5 minutes. After it expires, I am fatigued for about 11 minutes. Why am I being fatigued for so long?

Quote:
When the spell ends the ally will be fatigued for a time equal to the spell's original duration.

I tested the duration a couple of times to be certain.
5:55 - 6:00 Giant Strength.
6:00 - 6:11 Fatigue.
6:52 - 6:57 Giant Strength.
6:57 - 7:08 Fatigue.
7:12 - 7:17 Giant Strength.
7:17 - 7:29 Fatigue.
7:30 - 7:35 Giant Strength.
7:35 - 7:46 Fatigue.

Perhaps you are discovering the true nature of the "random" tick.

I'd suggest trying this out in non-consecutive intervals.

Or it's just double, not equal? Been over a year since I really paid any attention to how fatigue works so I'm not sure.

That doesn't really fit the data I'm seeing. The random tick should not generate these kinds of consistent results, though it is possible I was not using a large enough test sample.

This information could be dangerous because it means keeping your charms buffed with Giant Strength + Haste would mean up to 6 fatigue penalties instead of just two. If the duration is supposed to be double, then the help file needs to reflect the truth of the matter. If it is suppose to be equal to the duration of the spell then the fatigue duration may need to be rechecked.

In any case, I'll do some more testing tonight.

Do charms get fatigued?

Not in my experience, no.

Fatigue lasts the maximum duration of the spell that caused fatigue. There's no bug here. If the GS lasts fifteen ticks, the fatigue lasts fifteen ticks. Yes ticks are of random duration, from 45 to 75 seconds each.

And this brings up an interesting question - Is there factors that will cause giant strength to be less than its "maximum" duration? Is it set at a maximum duration based on the sorcs level? Or is it a maximum, period? If this is the case, it will last 15 ticks at gm, but only 3 when learned at apprentice and still cause 15 ticks of fatigue? If it lasts 3 ticks naturally, should it only cause 3 ticks of fatigue? I know that if its dispelled it fatigue lasts the whole duration the GS should have lasted.

This is what I meant. Fatigue and GS (or haste or any other fatigue inducing spell) last the same duration (in ticks) if there is no interruption in the original affect.

Alright - you answered one of the questions - Are there factors how much of that maximum duration of the buff actually lasts - ie: caster level, magic resistance, etc? If so, does the fatigue last the maximum duration or actual duration (taking into consideration that its not dispelled)?
