Post subject:  [Idea] Wand/Scroll preservation!

This is two small snippets of our groups, chasing an enemy group, and me trying to pull off a recite on one of the enemies while all this running around is going on. As it currently stands, if you zap a wand, or recite a scroll, whether or not your target is in the room doesn't matter. If the target is in the room, it recites/zaps at the target. If the target isn't in the room it simply wastes the charge/scroll.

Code:
recite xxx

A xxx male race darts east.
A zzz female race soars east.
A yyy male race walks east.
The grey wolf soars east.

|HP:100%|ME: 86%|PE: 89%| (zero - room - 3pm)
You recite a long chalky parchment of petrification.
They aren't here.

Code:
A xxx male race darts north.
A zzz female race soars north.
A yyy male race walks north.
The grey wolf soars north.

|HP:100%|ME: 86%|PE: 89%| (zero - room - 3pm)
recite xxx
You recite a long chalky parchment of petrification.
They aren't here.

Could wand/scroll zapping/reciting simply be changed to have casted spell targetting mechanics. If the target isn't in the room you don't zap your wand or recite your scroll, thus perserving it.

I don't think that's asking to much, it's frustrating wasting hours worth of scribing simply because game lag causes your command to enter a bit delayed(as was the case of the first recite).

This should be the first thing on D plate.

If asking for enchants to be tweaked because it takes f'ing forever is "too much," then so is this.

I say, "No, Sir. Deal with it as it is."

The only difference is having easy enchants would make everyone immune to casters. This just saves paper.

Paper and time.

If your sorc's time is valuable, then it's valuable. You don't get to pick and chose which situations are -more- valuable. I like you burning through "just paper" trying to get your enemy. Kinda like junking a set of enchanted gear, isn't it?

The vindictiveness of your arguments really adds to them, please keep it up.

I'm sorry you're unhappy that I didn't agree with your enchant thread, I listed several valid reasons however why I was against it. I'd be more than welcome to listen to concerns for abuse concerning my suggestion other than: QQ you didn't agree with me, so I'm not going to agree with you.

To answer your question as best I can, yes it saves time. However it doesn't make the scrolls any better, what you were proposing would make enchanting drastically easier, and thus everyone could run around with a full suit of highly enchanted gear, rendering casters ineffective.

I'm simply asking for scribed spells/wands to work exactly like their casted counterparts. You can't cast acid blast on a target that isn't there. I don't see why you can recite a scroll of acid blast on that same imaginary target.

It logically doesn't make sense, it mechanically doesn't make sense, and the only thing it's preventing is needless usage of wands/scrolls. It doesn't make it any easier to get those wands/scrolls, it doesn't make the spells on them more powerful.

It does logically AND mechanically make sense. You started to read it while they were in the room. Same thing happens when you cast and someone leaves the room.

Except you stop your cast and don't lose mana when they leave the room.

I don't see why you wouldn't just stop reading.

I fully agree with Sypher and his reasoning in this thread. I've played casters in the past, and this did always irk the [REDACTED] out of me.

You start reading the scroll at the person you saw at the time.
Your focus is not on the person anymore, but reciting the scroll.
If they move, it is not the scrolls fault.
Time to get a new one, or fol male, recite male.
