Let's say I consider killing a NPC and the echo come back 'a tough challenge'. Ok. I kill the NPC. I recieve one tick of Exp. Now let's say I consider killing a NPC that's the same aura and is in the same area, and while I'm at the same level of familiarity I get the echo 'Death will welcome you.' Ok. I kill the NPC. I do not recieve a tick of experience. As a matter of fact, I need to kill 2 NPCs that con 'Death will welcome you.' in order to recieve the same amount of exp I get from the single NPC that cons 'tough challenge.' Are there mysterious code gremlins at work that I don't know about? Or is this post in the wrong forum? Please help, I are confuuused! |

How do you know in any of these scenarios how far along to the next tick you are / were before engaging the NPC? |

I suppose I can't know precisely where I'm at on the experience, but I know that killing three NPCs that conned 'tough challenge' in a row produced three seperate ticks. And right after that I had to kill two NPCs that conned 'Death will welcome you.' to produce one tick. All while at the same familiarity. |

Two theories I can offer you. 1) The "tough challenge" NPC was opposite alignment, therefore you got an xp bonus. 2) The "Death will welcome you" NPCs were too far above you to get the full desired XP that you normally would of gotten if you were closer to their level. [/edit] First only applies if by "same aura" you meant same as your aura, not as the first NPC. |

I did mean the same aura as the first NPC, which was opposite my character's aura. Quote: ) The "Death will welcome you" NPCs were too far above you to get the full desired XP that you normally would of gotten if you were closer to their level.
So, if they are a way higher level than you, even if you manage to find a way to kill them by yourself it could in fact give you less experience? Seems kinda silly when you think about it. You only gain good life experience from beating up NPCs that are kinda tougher than you. But when that NPC who should be able to swat me like a fly gets wtfpwnt by my noob, I get spit for exp. I guess that's in there to keep people from taking an amatuer to the wastelands with a group and having him gain 23 levels with one encounter. Oh well. Thanks for the info, yo. |

This is it. There are penalties to XP for NPCs that are to high a level for you, and for ones that are the same alignment. |

Its to prevent people from being outfitted with high level EQ and power leveling like there is no tomorrow. |

Well that's something I didn't know. I would often seek out DTW you NPCs and bash them and splat them... I never knew I was in fact making levelling harder for myself rather than easier... Damn Dulrik and his ingenuity. |

Perfect match and tougher than you are generally the right place to aim for leveling ease. After that, the return is definitely less. |
