Maybe I'm just getting too old for MUDs, but I don't see the merit in making it take so long to get the first dozen levels or so. Typing "k xxxx" and watching the battle messages go by is a snorefest. I agree that at higher levels, there are skills to be used, and adventures to be had. But even here, I don't see the advantage in so much repetition. Like it or not, a certain amount of character power is necessary to particpate in many of SK's plots. That kind of goes along with being a PK MUD. Now that GMs no longer grow on trees, maybe it's time to make Expert-Mentor easier to obtain? Or at least Journeyman, when many class-specific abilities often come into play? Just a thought. |

/me agrees. Lower level leveling is a bit too hard... I expect higher levels to be hard, but it shouldn't be nearly this hard until... mentorish. sleeper |

I hate leveling, I'm all for measures to make it easier. I suck at it, too. |

Although repetition is a bit tedious during the early levels, I honestly can't say I've had issues levelling, at least not any more than what I used to. That should say a lot, considering I've been away from the mud for over two years and the whole area familiarity as well as levelling zones are quite new to me. With a bit of exploration there shouldn't be a problem to GM in 100 hours or less for veterans and 150-200 for less experienced players. Those numbers seem quite acceptable to me. When I first started over, I absolutely hated the area familiarity aspect of the MUD as it does delay you a bit, but if anything it helps take away from spamming kill XXX. At least it encourages exploration, character interaction (yes, imagine that, you can ask IC for levelling areas) and kill YYY instead. |

I'd rather have it somehow got made equally hard for everyone to GM. So noone could level to GM in less than 50hours while others use 500hours. Having few gm¨s in the game and alot masterïsh, fighting to become higher level would suit me better atleast. I liked how it was back then where people above lvl 45 were seldom. |

I'll admit, one of the biggest reasons that deters me from coming back to SK is everytime I've tried, leveling was absolute balls. The game is just no fun until you hit about master, and are actually able to PK to a decent extent, and participate in groups in higher level zones, wastelands, ToM, etc... I see no point in making it take hours upon hours to get to level 40+. Especially not with the severely reduced number of players I've seen each time I give it another go. |

If near noone is above lvl 40, it's still not a bad situation to be level 40 either ![]() I will agree to the first hmmm perhaps 20 levels are quite steep in levelling with the new AI scripts on NPCs, especially to people who are completely new to the mud .After level 20 or so, it should get harder than it is now. ![]() |
