[Combat help] Cover

Syntax: cover

This command allows anyone wearing a shield to temporarily increase their defensive stance versus missile attacks at a cost of their own attack speed and concentration. Preparing to cover is a focused action, which takes only a moment. Cover gives a person the chance to deflect arrows with their shield, as well as use their own defensive skills. The bonus is short lived, so a person would have to cover themselves again after a short while.

I voted yes. I think it's very resonable that a seasoned warrior or anyone else woudl take pains to protect themselves from a volley of arrows. I would. It's a good addition.

This idea does not suck.

I'd like to add to the idea by having a percentage to deflect arrows for anyone behind you in the formation.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I mean shields were meant to protect one's self from attacks. Makes sense that they block ranged projectiles as well.

While I love the idea (insert obligatory "We'll fight in the shade" statement) the only problem is if you are at speed dart and you don't have time to "cover" then how will this be affected. You won't have time to necessarily prep before a volley of arrows kills you in less than a round and a half. Great idea but...it needs some fine tuning.

Especially if you're up against ranged with a group that doesn't have time to even heal before you're dead.

Nice addition. Encourages grouping, helps caster types.

Making it a manual skill rather than automatic means it won't protect against an ambush, right? I like that, too.

Peace,
Bux

Does this mean the sorcs and necros and other classes will be wandering wielding the very few good shields just like it's been happening with the adam belts? As a skill it looks cool but I prefer a slight adjustment to giant missile attacks. Second row classes like scouts, hellions, paladins, even barbs and mercs may prefer using 2h weapons. Dodge alone is not enough against giant projectile weapons.
